Do you support the move to East London?

So do you support Levy's plans to move to the Olympic Site?

It's not five miles, even as the crow flies.

Imagine Leeds United upping sticks and moving to Bradford, and still calling themselves Leeds.

6 miles then.

Nothing like that, as Leeds and Bradford are two separate Cities.

Imagine Millwall moving to South London and still calling themselves Millwall... OH.

What about Bolton moving to Manchester? They've been the same city since 1974, only 9 years less than Tottenham has been part of London.

Bolton is a town and is already in Greater Manchester... so what's the problem?

There reason I keep bringing up Bolton as an example is that they're situation is pretty much identical to ours, except they are 15 years on after the move.

Both of our towns were incorporated into larger cities (Tottenham into London in 1965 and Bolton into Manchester in 1974)

Bolton moved 5.8 miles, DL plans to move 5.3 miles.

Bolton moved to Horwich in 1997, still in the borough of Bolton, but not in the town of Bolton, since then their success on the pitch has improved. The few years prior to the move they were up and down the top two divisions like a yo-yo, after the move they spent a couple of years outside the top flight, but since 2001 they have been a permanent fixture in the premier league, below are their attendance figures and league position for the years they have been in the top flight in their new stadium.

2001/2 - 25,098 (16)
2002/3 - 25,017 (17)
2003/4 - 26,795 (8)
2004/5 - 26,006 (6)
2005/6 - 25,265 (8)
2006/7 - 23,606 (7)
2007/8 - 20,901 (16)
2008/9 - 22,486 (13)
2009/10 - 21,881 (14)

So while the new stadium has brought them relative success on the pitch, there is a definite downward trend in their attendances, even from 2003 to 2007 when they were consistently in the top half and competing for or playing in Europe. Does this have anything to do with them moving out of Bolton? What will happen to our attendances? And Bolton didn't even move out of their borough or to another area of Manchester, just out of Bolton.

Most people travel from outside of Tottenham to go to games though. I'd be interested to see what the average attendance of people outside London is that go to a match... I reckon it's pretty high.

With that in mind, we're not really like Bolton. London isn't like Bolton. Bolton haven't hit the comparative heights we have, nor do they have the history and the widespread fanbase we do.

I don't really believe it's due to their move, more the rising cost of football in general and the tripe football that has been served up there until very recently.

They may not have the honours we have achieved, but they still have plenty of history, and their starting point when they moved to their new stadium might be lower than ours, but in relative terms even when success on the field went up in their new stadium their attendances went down.

Bolton's ticket prices have actually gone down in recent years, you would have to spend at least £21 to get into a game in 2005, now it's just £20. Those are standard prices for the cheapest seats, not any promotional prices.

I support Spurs, and I'll still go. I'll love the club just as much and I'll crave success and good football just as much. I won't support the move though. I'll accept it, but I won't support it. The moment it happens I'll be on the bandwagon for every ENIC out campaign started by angry fans, it's just how I feel. Anybody who has read my posts over the years on this site knows that I've supported ENIC and Levy's pretty much in their entirety and have always believed that they were best for the club. The moment we become and East London club, that dies.

Do you fail to see that their attendances are gradually falling year by year?

You know that Wasps only acquired the 'London' bit when they turned pro in 1999, don't you? The amateur part of the club is still plain 'Wasps'.

Just goes to show, the doom mongers are a vocal minority nothing more.

Based on the poll I'd say running the risk of alienating best part of 25% of your supporters is a pretty sizeable chunk.

Of the season ticket holders that stand by me, I've not heard a single one support the move or give any indication whatsoever they would be prepared to move to Stratford.

So I'd like to think "we" are more than just a vocal minority.

Of that 25%, 75% will no doubt be opposed to the move, but reluctantly accept it eventually.

And those who chant Anti-Stratford songs are some of the most vocal fans. I get the feeling that alot of most vocal fans are against the move.

Btw the We are N17 group on facebook has got over 3000 members.

3000 members amongst a catchment of probably 60-70,000 fans isn't a great deal. No doubt of those 3000, maybe 500 will actually never go to see Spurs again.

Perhaps, but then there are a fair number of people I have spoken to who have said they will not renew their season ticket if we move to Stratford who have not signed up to the facebook group.

I was one of those who fell into that bracket. But I've realised that I would only be hurting myself.

Think the poll should be "Who would stop supporting Spurs if we moved" to see the real affect.
