Some people do need a wake up call, there is a very realistic chance that the club will go down, for 3 reasons...

1. Due to King we are unable to stick to a back 4, so chopping and changing every game isn't helping the situation, add to that he is our supposed captain, should be Woodgate IMO.

2. We have the physically weakest midfield in the premiership, Modric, Giovani and Lennon all lightweight, teams will over run the midfield.

3. The strikers, or should I say lack of. Pavlyuchenko hasn't learnt english yet, he needs a good year to settle in this country and to the pace and competitiveness of the premiership. Mr Bent is hopeless and him alone isn't gonna score enough. Campbell is inexperienced in this league and we can't put pressure on his shoulders, he's not even our player.

All in all, 3 very good reasons why we could realistically go down.

That basically sums it all up quite nicely!

I believe one of the major problems that our supporters have is that we can never come to terms with reality. When we are doing well, we think that we should be doing better. When we are doing poorly, then we are relegated and start planning for life in the championship. What all this translates to is unnecessary pressure on everyone at the club.

When we are doing well, we think we should be doing better, so we start to question the players and manager, which puts pressure on everyone. This filters through to the board - who then start to question the manager. This usually leads to the manager being sacked and the merry-go-round continues.

when we are doing poorly, its relegation time, which again puts unnecessary pressure on the club, because the desperation from the fans starts to filter through and they start booing at half time and at the end of games, which doesn't do anyone any good.

I must say that I fear we will go down this season, but we have to get beyond this fear - afterall it is a fear of something in the future, that is not actually reality. there is a lot of football to be played yet. like the players, we have to just take it one game at a time and get behind the team without any thoughts of previous games or future games.

If we survive this, it will be a major character building exercise

Hi TTID :) - 'we' ? - where do I (and doubtless others) say this sort of thing - I absolutely agree that your picture fits many even perhaps most spurs fans

However, I have praised us no end for three good seasons in a row- and under the Levy model have said it's about as good as it gets -

I'm forever supporting the team on this site - bigging up our victories - pointing that 10th far from medocrity, puts you in the top 10% of english pro football - higher if you include the many decent semi-pro teams

all spurs fans are not doom and gloomers unable to see a bigger picture - I certainly am not one

time and again I have called for perspective on here

I understand that 60-63 was an untypical golden era and that our post- war average of 10th is a damn fine acheievement - and I celebrated our last two trophies long and hard

I know I keep banging on about this I/we thing but I take exception to my generally good judgement being lumped in with fans who aren't making the same calls as me

re the reality/buying the hype - I predicted 14th for us (a far better prediction that many have made on here)- but yes ATM I feel we are likely to go down - probably that's an over reaction, but it's the way I feel -

however I still think there's hope too - after stoke we will know so much more

Look you can panic, that's your prerogative, but seriously I don't know what you expected. If you expected Top 4 you bought the hype. I expected mid-table and good cup runs. We have a brand new team that has barely played together. It is full of young talent that is still gaining valuable experience. I know Ramos can win important league and cup matches. I think we should give him and the players time. I want consistency. It's what we're currently lacking. Give this squad two years of Prem experience and it won't be that old. It will be a force to be reckoned with.

I also don't blame Ramos for not knowing our best team. Who the hell does. Could we get relegated, sure we could, but I don't think we will. Will I start panicking if it looks likely near say the end of the year, yes. Until then we need to support this beautiful club. Sing the player's names. Give them time. Have faith. I know it's hard as a Tottenham supporter to believe things are going to look up for us because of how things have gone recently, but they will. Our players are too good not to gel. Our squad will improve.

Can you show me an example of someone who has said they are not 100% behind the team? Being a realist and saying that relegation is a possibility doesn't mean we support the team any less than you. We are all Spurs fans and we all have the best interests of the club in mind. Frankly I find it offensive when people try to pass off blind optimism as some sort of god given right to look down their noses at fans who are rightly pessimistic about our position. We are all in this together mate.

hi HT I think we only need 11 wins - I'm sure we'll pick up 9 points in draws at least to get the 42

no-one is hammering us - there's a couple of losses v mackems and hull we deserved draws at least - so some of these narrow defeats can become draws if we hit a decent patch

Fair don't DC

So, if we flip it around, we could say Spurs can only lose another 11 matches or they're in trouble?

So its like we've got 11 lives - I'm not too sure of I like the sound of that, considering we have to play Chelsea, Arse, Man Utd and Liverpool another 7 times

Leave this thread at once, you, with your mildly optimistic rantings. They're not welcome here

:) HT - actually we have 2 of the draws

mm 11 wins 7 draws 13 defeats - it's still worrying but not impossible

of course 42 points isn't guaranteed safety - but I think it'll be enough especially because I think our GD will be easily the best in the basement zone - so it'll take 43 to beat us
