I don't have any problem with him starting Sandro and Livermore... Not like he had a choice, anyone holding AVB responsible for yesterdays farce probably needs to look elsewhere.

It's like giving a pilot an aeroplane with one wing and then complaining he's shit at flying it.

its good man management. it tells them you are in the team on merit rather than you'll be out on your arse as soon as possible. it means the players will continue to play for you

i would prefer AVB to pick his strongest line up that suits his tactics.. for me it would have been Dembele and Adebeyor starting and then get Defoe and Livermore on later as subs..

The next game is the first where he has the full squad available for selection (a part from those injured or suspended). I expect Dembele to start, as well as I hope to see Ade starting. Based on the last match, I wouldn't mind Friedel playing, even though I'm dying to see Lloris. It would be interesting to see Caulker instead of Gallas, but I can't see that happening...

I guess the international break will give a few players match practice which is good, hopefully we still have a good core of players back that avb can work with too (dempsey/friedel, ade playing internationals?) Pretty sure the team we have seen so far is not avb's prefered line up, at leat i hope so :/

I feel our poor start to the season is down to numourous factors and obviously the late transfer negotiations and modric money.

However I feel the underlying factor is trying to change things to quickly, we were not a broken team we just needed sharpening up tactically, in regards to substitutions and the way we approach particular teams that definitely needed a change especially against the big four.

Playing with two holding midfielders in a league like the premier league is very pointless in my opinion unless you are playing against a strong top 6 side, because that is when you area vulnerable. The stubbornness to play the formation we have been in the last two home games has cost us, we had no fluidity and have been clueless , its how we need to approach the likes of man utd and chelsea not norwich city.

To much change in such a small space of time when it has not been needed is evident, look at harry he did it gradually and look where it took us.. I trust AVB in the long run, he has the ability , the ideas but I am worried he does not have the time or the backing if things don't change soon....

Mate touche, finally someone agreed with what I've been thinking n posted in few threads yday, nail on the head!

Exactly, it's a strange thing to say. Very few people seemed concerned with the awful way Redknapp treated players. Dropping our player of the season and not even using him in the cups or limiting our best strikers to the occasional sub-appearence no matter how well they played when we were stuck with a striker who had one of the worst records in recent memory.

Players know that when a new manager comes in there are going to be players that get sold or dropped, especially when that team has underperformed in the way Spurs have for the last few years. It's crazy to expect us to sign Lloris, Dembele, Dempsey, Sigurdsson and Vertonghen as then tell them that they can't play because we don't want to upset Livermore, Daws or Defoe. It's up to the players who get dropped to perform well enough to put pressure on the new lads and a good manager will give them an opportunity to make their case for selection. I expect AVB to start with Ade and Dembele but I won't be happy if he treats Defoe like Redknapp treated Bent or Pav.

How do you know how he treated players? awful really? players always seem to like playing for him, always seemed happy on the pitch, you mean just because he dropped the awful Pav just because he managed to score but done sod all else. bottom line is he was the manager, so he decided the team and the results weren't exactly bad.

And honestly, it has been broken since February... So, that in combination with all departures, it needed to be fixed.
To be fair we were not playing badly last season when we dropped points, apart from against Norwich; and in reality we have not looked that bad this season, except against Norwich.

If we avoid them in the cups, we only have to play the mighty Norwich once more this season, so there is hope yet.

I have doubts about playing a high line with our personnel. Both Bale and Lennon are speed merchants and need space to run to be effective. Playing a high line deny them such space at times.

Its not just midfield pairings though, when Bale and Lennon swapped sides Lennon was stuck to the left touchline like glue while our striker that plays best with the ball to his feet was nowhere near, not either of these players faults on that account, we needed some adaptive tactics to suit Defoe in this game, probably dropping Sigs back into a flat mid 3 and playing Bale and Lennon as wing forwards to at least try and get a through ball into him, and why the hell would you have a player like Lennon glued to the left touchline..
I am backing AVB but he is making some very basic errors, same bad substitutions that he made at Chelsea, and an almost unwavering belief that players can fit into his style when they clearly don't, this year in my opinion we should have switched to 433, kept the passing game, learn't the pressing game and then adapted to his tactics next season when he would have had a second transfer window to bring players in more suited to his style.. I am worried he has confused some of the players too soon..
Building a system from scratch is very difficult to do, as Brendan Rodgers is also finding.
I hope it works, at times we have played well, 1st half of the 2 opening games we were superb, yesterday though we looked clueless, it looked like information overload, players too rigid, almost as if they had been told to stand in certain places at all times we were so static..
I am all for new coaching methods, pressing, high line defence, totaal voetball, provoking the opposition...
Whilst i am totally against the booing at the game i am not surprised the fans did it, our passing game has been ripped from under us, get the team passing again Andre, that's one of the basics...

I believe the main reason he didn't start with Dembele is because everything AVB does is about preparation. He likes to scout the next opposition thoroughly, and then spend all available time before the match preparing his team. I suspect he preferred to prefer Livermore than risk an unprepared Dembele who had also had virtually no time with the squad. Not ideal, but sometimes in life, eh...

THudd just isn't fit to start, Jenas was booed last time he set foot on the pitch. That leaves - Livermore.
