Not really sure what Monaco can do about it though. Its not like they can try to take legal action against Atletico since they were obviously also blissfully unaware (if this is true of course). They could try to reneg the deal completely but I would imagine they still want to keep him (although from that story it sounds like he is a bad tempered git). Perhaps they could try to sue Falcao himself but then he might not want to play for a club that tried to sue him. Really not sure what they can do.

Money is nothing to them, they won't care.

No it's a tricky situation indeed and they look to be the fall guys if it's correct. I would hazard a guess that they work out his worth based on "real" age and Athletico are made to pay back a portion of the excess with the player himself possibly stumping up something in the form of a fine.

It would open up a can of worms though, how many others have done the same?

Whilst we're on the subject, someone should check that Cavani's birth certificate, the bloke has a face of an 80's sci-fi villain.

The players contract of employment might actually be null and void if true

I thought he was actually nearly 30. Huh, this could get very interesting. I suppose if Atletico/Porto/River knew, and so far there doesn't seem to be a suggestion they were anything but another duped party/parties, they could be right in the shit over this. Either way, if it is true from the payer's perspective, he can expect massive legal bills, a massive pay drop or both.

Just a quick question though, I saw the pic of the document in question t'other night and I was immediately struck by the fact that crucial line containing his date of birth was in different colour print (red I think from memory) and slightly larger than the rest of the document. Was that enhanced by people wanting to point out the discrepancy or was that the supposedly unadulterated document because if it's the latter, it feels like bullshit to me.

Its a matter of principal though. They are the guys who are now looking like they've been mugged.

I agree but like someone else said, what can they do? If they punish the player they're punishing themselves and if they let it go they've been mugged.

interesting that the reports came out of colombia and not as a result of investigation from monaco or athletico. you would think they wouldn't want to sabotage their best national team player

What makes you say that? The press there may well be similar to the ****s we have in the UK. Build them up, then knock them down. It's all about selling papers.
