'Seemingly' idiotic move on his behalf but as I had stated before, they were the only ones to meet his clause and A.M were forcing the sale... He had no choice.

The only way we were going to get involved is if he could convince A.M to let us buy him for 5-7 million less than Shahktar.

He was basically forced out of AM to make 190 000 pounds a week, get a free mansion and a personal chauffeur. I think it's pretty easy to understand Bernard. Not to mention lot of other Brazilian players to hang out with.

How is playing for Shaktar 'throwing away your career'?

At least he'll be playing in the CL ffs!

He gets exposure to European football, getting paid a hell of a lot, playing with lots of other Brazilians, in a league where he should excel.

He'll no doubt use it as a stepping stone, but it isn't a bad move at all.

Edit: Oh and happy he's not ended up at Arsenal. Very happy.

I thought in lots of these situations that it isn't entirely down to the player. The 3rd party "ownership" basically means that they can tell him to take the payday? Combined with his home club wanting to sell then I don't see what options he had?

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that was behind some of the other big moves to PSG, Monaco etc?

People say that he went for the money and he should of thought of his career but its not even about the money in one sense.

He will probably get treated like a king by Shaktar and even if he was of the best players around he probably wont be as treated as well as he is going to tbh.

Shakhtar are a great side, but moves to Eastern Europe seem to seriously dent a player's chances of international football - from that point of view, it couldn't be a worse time for a move for him with the WC next year.

That's a very good point.
It seems a bit unfair, but Russian/Ukrainian leagues tend to get left out when International Squad Managers pre-select footballers to represent their respective nations in WC or Euro Competitions (or any major international competition for that matter).
I can think of numerous players who "disappeared" off the books, after they signed to play in Russia and/or Ukraine.
Most of them brilliant footballers of Nigerian and Brazilian descent.

I seriously doubt this is true in light of Timothy's comments today about trimming the squad and using players he "trusts"
