Versatile Etienne Capoue said he had no qualms about dropping in at centre-half to help us get the job done at West Ham on Saturday.

one of the many that obviously needed a season to adapt to a new league. I think he will be a key integral part our season. Very adaptable and composed. looking forward to seeing him blossom.

Capoue - amazing in August ;)

Looks promising, think he was a bit of a victim of the circus last season... Hopefully this one will be calmer

I think he played in all pre-season games and has carried good form into the first game of the season. Nice to see him get a decent run in the starting line up.

Agree totally about the last bit.
Started last season very well, had us thinking we had another genuine destroyer to cover/compete with Sandro, but then his injury came at a bad time, and when he came back, whilst still lacking fitness and sharpness he was pushed into CB, whilst the team was already imploding. He was never gonna blossom I'm that situation. Following that, issues with dropping out of favour about wrote his season off. Good to see him back. Genuine destroyer at the base of midfield, but with more than a little composure and quality on the ball too. Will fit into Pochettino's system as well or better than any of the others in my opinion.

For me, he was the signing of the window in amongst all the high profile ones. Incredible value and we still haven't seen the real EC yet. Would love to see him paired with Schneiderlin in CM.

I would have thought most of us would have watched it all mate - what are you getting at?
Well it wasn't on tv. Only 3k can fit in the away end. A lot aren't savvy enough to watch it on the computer.
It was leading to me asking how people can rave about a players performance when they likely didn't see it.

I got it on the computer. My thoughts were that he was bypassed for 27 minutes as we were genuinely in danger of being overrun.
Then Naughton got off and he dropped back to CB.
So, he had 27 minutes at CM, we were not playing Well at all, then he played 63 minutes at CB.

I'm at a loss as to how so many are raving about him and saying he must start.

i watched the whole game and whilst he wasn't my Man of the match ....I thought he had a decent game.
Within the first 20mins or so he made 3 GREAT tackles and broke up play well.....opening mins down our left side when chasing back after rose lost it .....he showed speed to catch up then slide and trapped the ball ....fast back up onto his feet and played the ball simple to put us on the attack ...

Now match of the day never showed that ....they should highlights from around the 20min mark .....opening mins we looked good and was mainly all spurs....

He faded alittle ,but got his foot in when needed and did the simple things well......I also thought to just drop back into defence, shows hes more than capable and thought he actually did alright there.

For me IF he carries on this season,he will only get better and will be better than Sandro .....because he seems more mobile and doesn't seem to do a great tackle then give the ball away like sandro does .
( Do like sandro, but he's been ok at best for last two seasons ...for whatever reasons ).

IMHO I can see capoue being our main anker man .....will sit and protect, but can also play the ball well......
With games/min behind him I can only see him getting better and better .....

Surely you can see why I'm confused?

It's not that I think he was poor. I'm just confused how 27 minutes in a team being dominated can lead people to think he's so great?

I watched the first half yesterday.
First 20 mins there was only one team and it wasn't west ham.
Ive always thought Capoue was good and nothing has changed.

You sure it was 20 minutes?
I had the first ten on the radio then the rest on the computer and that's not what I saw.

When I watched, the commentary was a joke, Lamela nearly got Ade in on goal.
The commentary sounded like west ham were on the break.
Watch the rerun.
