Eidur Gudjohnsen took less than a minute to open his Spurs account in a training ground friendly against Dagenham & Redbridge at Spurs Lodge on Tuesday.

The forward marked his first appearance just days after arriving from Monaca with two goals in a 4-1 win against the Daggers. Jon Obika also scored twice.

Eidur was joined in the side by fellow new recruit Younes Kaboul and both played 90 minutes in a friendly that ticked all the boxes for Development Coach Clive Allen.

"Eidur must have scored with his first touch," reported Clive. "Jon Obika closed the goalkeeper down, blocked his clearance and the ball spun out to Eidur and he finished from about 12 yards.

"Jon scored two excellent goals after that. His first was a left-foot shot into the top corner from the edge of the box and his second a finish at the far post after a break from Andros Townsend.

"Dagenham scored just before half-time to make it 3-1 and Eidur scored his second and our fourth with a near-post header from Jon Bostock's corner midway through the second half.

"It was ideal for Eidur as he's worked hard with the fitness coaches over the weekend but he needed a game from a match fitness point of view and just to get to know everyone. It was a real benefit for him."

Sounds like Obika's goals were better, but it can't be bad that he's got some goals already.

Should see him against Leeds then, probably as a sub. Will be a much better test than Dagenham of course - and hopefully will be a good re-introduction to the English game for Gudji. Will be interesting if we can see signs of potentially effective partnership with Defoe - like we saw in the matches with Pav and Defoe.

Eidur can't play tomorrow as he wasn't available for the original fourth round match, we'll have to wait to the villa game for his introduction, hopefully can score with his first touch then!

Bummer, seems a silly rule? It's not like the teams will have the same personnel as in the first leg anyway - I mean, if teams can lose some players from that leg, why can't they get some new ones registered for the 2nd leg?

Good start for Gudjohnsen, but I'm more interested in people's opinion of Obika. Is he nearly ready to be 4th striker for the 1st team? Everytime i check out a match report from Clive's team, this guy seems to stand out. He's quite prolific.

Thinking of strikers - watching Rooney these days is a real lesson in how a forward should play. The ugly brute is absolutely immense. That 2nd goal against Arsenal was a joy to watch and not just because it was against the Gooners.

I hope Defoe is watching tapes because he could learn a lot about workrate. Rooney just absolutely loves being involved and on the ball and you always get the impression when the game is over, he's left nothing on the table. Tevez is similar but not as good. Sometimes when Defoe walks off, you get the impression he could play again straight away.

I don't mean to rag on Defoe too much - he's a different type of player and can be quite lethal on his day. He's our #1 striker. But his influence on games is pretty weak, even when he scores. We know he can run around, a lot, but he just doesn't seem to have the hunger. It's like he's too cool to put a shift in. The day of strikers just being there to knock it in, important though that is, is changing I think. You've gotta make things happen and not just wait for someone to make it happen for you.

Bit of an off-topic rant about forward play - sorry Eidur

i saw obika up against shaktar last year and he was really good in my opinion , he isnt the tallest but he is pretty strong and quite fast as well and was holding the ball up really well and bringing players into the attack. The prem is quite a step up but im guessing if we have any injuries then obika will be appearing more often

Down here in yeovil they love him..he practically stopped them being relegated towards the end of last season. Actually the glovers fans think all the spurs kids are class

I was down our gym in Yeovil the other night and who's on the set of weights next to me replete in Spurs shorts and socks and Yeovil training top? Jon Obika.

I'm sure I caught him looking at my Spurs shorts thinking "they are so last season".

That or he was checking you out  (only joking mate)

Have you managed to get to any of the Yeovil games to see any of our guys?

oh and by the way didnt the swan in sherborne used to show spurs games from "different" satelite stations?

As I'm old enough to be his Dad (and quite possibly his Grandad) I wouldn't have thought so!

No - don't go too often, I got a chasing there a few years back on my 1st visit when I went to watch my childhood 2nd team (Enfield) play, there were police dogs on the pitch and everything so it put me off going (although I went to Villa park for the Trophy final).

The last three times I've been I was offered a mates free season ticket - and each time they've been beaten, so I'm not allowed to go anymore. :)

......according to my sources (my youngest) the Swan's closed recently. The 'Brit' has been showing most Spurs games - they had the Wigan game live just before Christmas.
