Wembley was half full for the Premier League clash between Tottenham and Cardiff City, to the surprise of Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was shocked to see so many empty seats at Wembley for his side's Premier League clash with Cardiff City.
Spurs triumphed 1-0 thanks to Eric Dier's eighth-minute goal but did so in front of an official attendance of 43,268 - some way short of the national stadium's 90,000-seat capacity.
Pochettino was seen to point to an almost completely empty upper tier ahead of kick-off, seemingly taken aback by the low turnout on a rainy afternoon in the capital.
"I was a little bit surprised that it was empty," he told a news conference. "But I understand that this is difficult – we cannot ask for more from our fans. Of course, it was a difficult day with the weather and everything and it's not easy.

"I am always honest and I was surprised that the top tier was empty."

Joke of a comment. Think Poch should be questioning Levy why the top tier wasn't even on sale rather than his own fans......

Every ticket available in tiers 1&2 was sold pre-game.

Thought the upper tier was closed except for a few ST holders?
43,000 is still more than old WHL and I’m sure if we were in new stadium there would have been a bigger crowd.

It was that's what makes his comments so bizarre.

Every ticket available online was sold out by Thursday night

Be prepared to be more shocked then over the coming weeks/months while we’re still at Wembley.

I was there today, but before during and after the game I’m afraid to say I was asking myself why the hell I was there in the pissing rain with a hangover.

I’m just done with Wembley now, apart from the CL games. Going to keep any further refunds I get against next seasons ST.

Fed up with the ball ache of getting there, the even worse ball ache of getting back, the soulless bowl that is the stadium, the shit PA system, the roof leaking and dripping over me, the thick muppets serving the overpriced food and drink and the foreign tourists unable to queue for anything without pushing in and spending their whole time in their pack-a-macks with their selfie sticks and bloddy video cameras.

I asked this question in the match thread... My understanding was that the upper tier was closed for this game... As they do on occasion when it's a low grade match.

Bit of a disconnect between club and fans, who'd a thunk?

dagraham touched on it in his post, I think Season Ticket holders go to every game, why wouldn't they if they've paid for them, but this season it's a bit of a perfect storm. A rise in season ticket prices plus playing at Wembley added to which if they don't take up their ticket option they get a credit to their account that can be saved and put towards next season's ticket so they are being selective. That said, the unsold seats weren't on sale as I understand. For the record I wasn't able to go yesterday, had I lost the cost of a ticket as usual I might have tried to work something out or let someone have my seat but as it was I just left it and took a credit.

so the reality. We have 35K hard core, who actually go. Don't put their seat on sale/watch on telly or moan about the weather etc.

And another 40K including tourists who go to the big games. And half of them go to the second tier of games.

Wembley has been the right choice and a huge success in establishing the 40K as game-go'ers.

Poor that Poch and the players were not briefed as to what to expect, though- that should be part of the preparation IMO.

Not sure what went on here but someone screwed up. The top tier was open for the first few days to ST holders and then they closed it. Which is what made it look bad as you had a few hundred scattered about. I find it slightly worrying the top tier is closed for city as well. It appears to me they are trying to preserve the 90k capacity games as they don’t want to have to go back to the council to raise the limit. I think we’ve had 3 so far with the 2 more CL will make 5. That only leaves 4 spare I guess they are keeping for NLD chelsea United and CL if need it. To me it indicates we will be at Wembley longer than most want.

There was a restricted capacity enforced for this game. Nothing to do with fans staying away. The capacity was set at 45.000 by Brent Council

We always get bad gates when there’s 2 games in 3 days at Wembley. The place is just a ballache. It’s hard to know where you draw the line at hardcore do you say that was today at 40k or mk dons at 23k ? We never went below 50k for PL last season. I’d say as long as factors are reasonable 50k + will turn up for PL. I was lightweight yesterday, had the sniffles a bit and was a filthy day so ducked it.

I haven’t had a break in 20 years of buying season tickets as to do so would mean I lose my season ticket and go to the back of the queue. Now I can have a few games off should I so wish and get myself together before Christmas. After the financial burden over 20 years I’m really at the point where the money might have been better spent elsewhere yesterday. That said, I was there and have my City ticket too. But at that point I’ve got a short term decision to make.

I didn't go. As a ST holder I took advantage of the fact that I can get money back for certain games.

I'm completely over Wembley. Besides I often work on Saturdays so I really have to pick and choose which games I go to. Considering i had the option of a refund for Cardiff I thought I'd give it a miss.

I don't regret it for a second when I saw the weather yesterday and how shit the game was.

Welcome to the club mate. Fulham was my last straw.

Well I mean I went to the Barca game but that doesn't count :cautious:
