I couldn't care less whether they're from Edmonton, Zimbabwe or bloody Saturn as long as we're doing well.

We had a dutch manager who wanted an English backbone to his team.

I'm just wondering if we have an influx of Spanish players and a bunch of the current English players get transferred if it will matter.....once it brings success.

We have a strategy within the Club defined by the Board which includes a preference for both English players and players who are young enough either to develop into stars, or if they don't, will have a sell-on value greater than their purchase price. This has been the case since the Board's review of its options post-Hoddle, and there is no evidence that this has changed or will change in the foreseeable future. The fact that Jol agreed with this strategy, initially helped him keep his job. If Ramos openly disagreed with the strategy, he would have been unlikely to have been employed. With Ramos coming in as Head Coach rather than Manager (as Jol had been promoted to), we are back to the continental system we had when Arnesen was Sporting Director.

The question therefore is not who Ramos will bring in, but who Comolli will bring in, since it will emerge that Comolli is now in charge of all football matters, just as Arnesen was, but more than Comolli himself has been since he joined the Club. Hence the battle of wills with Jol which Comolli won and Jol lost. Hence Jol having the rug pulled from under his feet, his job being made impossible, and finally getting the sack.

If you think Del Nido is going to be doing business with us, think again.

I could'nt give a flying fcuk where our players come from as long as they perform on the pitch every week. Where has our English backbone got us this season? These 15 odd games this season have shown us which players have balls and which ones dont. Not any English players have done this club any justice so far. For me only YPL, Bale and Keane come out of our 15 odd games so far with any credit.

Viva the Ramos revolution!!!

Unfortunately English and backbone shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence currently.

Just curious...how many of you right now if asked would trade a new Spurs that consists of Spanish, etc. players that will challenge for the title and be league leaders for a side that's mediocre with English backbone?

What happened to the faith of Spurs fans? Something about not changing your ideals through the worst times? Last time I remember, all you Spurs fans use to do is keep on going forever about your English players and how you contribute to the NT. Now you care less just because you're losing a few games? Right after two seasons where you finished 5th? Would love to see how many of you would stick around if Spurs ever get relegated (which is highly unlikely tbh). How fickle Spurs fans are.

To be fair to most people who've posted in this thread, they've probably not been the specific ones who've ranted on about the greatness of our English players.

Plus its not the losing we've been doing, it's the not winning and the conceding. Even if we scored one goal more than the opposite team in games ending
6-5 we'd be concerned about our apparant lack of defence, which was apparant last year when we did reach 5th.

The bottom line is the standard of English players is poor (look at the England squad for proof) and quality being so scare the price of such players is getting ridiculous (Bent more expensive than Henry!)

You can shove your English spine up yer arse (could be quite painful though)

Ole!

Really? You didn't see Lampard's sublime passing on Saturday, or Joe Cole's contribution?

Inflated prices are a problem, but if Ramos decides Bent fits the bill and gives him a run we might well start thinking he's good value for money. We find Jenas so immensely frustrating because he has the basic ability to be quite as good as Lampard or Gerrard; can Ramos find what's missing? Will he have the patience to give Hudd the time he needs to develop the experience that will compensate for his lack of pace? Or maybe the imagination to bring in a sprint trainer?

Let's not forget that the Double Side boasted no fewer than six 'foreigners'.
