I went for both being happy, as the deadline day is all that will change. it doesn't mean he has to start buying in May

Deals will still be done right up to the end of the window. The kind of brinkmanship that Daniel indulges in is designed to get the very best deals. If he can shave £5 mil off the price of a player, that's probably the academy wage bill taken care of for a couple of years.

We'll still leave it to the last minute, but the last minute will just be an earlier last minute than previous last minutes' were. Or something like that.

I think it will have an effect on deadline day type dealings.
If a team hasn't played any games yet they don't really know what's missing or who they can afford to let go.
The article raises a point about some teams needing to sell and how this might affecft them.

Worst part of course is that this is only a premier league change. European clubs will still be able to buy players and, presumably, players from the premier league.

It's a catch 22, as we apparently like to wait until all the big spenders are done before doing our business, as we don't want to get into a bidding war.
However, from a settled squad perspective, and allowing the manager to get his plans fully in place before the season starts, this has to be the best option.
Kicking off with players still unsettled does not suit anyone. The window closes, then all go off for international weeks currently, which really does not help at all, it just prolongs the settling period.

To be honest I think everyone will be happy. The "deadline day" stuff will still all happen but at least it won't interfere with the season. I don't buy this whole idea that clubs will have less time - they take as much time as they're given with everyone trying to call each other's bluff. If you've only got a month to haggle, you'll haggle for a month. If you've got 6 months to haggle, you'll haggle for 6 months. Like I say, it won't affect Levy and I think the managers will be happy because it means they aren't having to deal with all this nonsense while trying to prepare for games.

If a team is waiting to play a few matches to know what they have, and what they need - someone is not doing their job.

I love how some people seem to think this will stop the madness at the end of the window. The last 2 weeks will still be the busiest, it's just that the last 2 weeks will be earlier.

at the moment it honestly doesn't feel like the season has properly started until the window closes as there are too many distracting stories etc.... having a settled squad before the season starts would be welcome.

To everyone saying Daniel will be happy... if our deadline day is 2 weeks before that of the rest of Europe, wouldn't that take away a significant amount of his bargaining power?

The system has to change, there's far too much disruption to the teams for the first three games of the season. Players feigning injury to force transfers and other players are uncertain of their futures.

Can only be a positive.

The window remaining open in Europe isn't going to be a problem. We're not going to sell after our window is closed unless we're already set and decided upon the sale.

I don't think people have a problem with the madness - the madness is fun! But it's the madness 3 or 4 games into a season that's viewed as the problem.

Personally, I don't see how the transfer window could be blamed on our 'poor' start. We finished the season destroying teams for fun. We still have the same team. Walker left, but he hadn't played for quite a while anyway. We haven't played anyone yet that have strengthened much from last year. Not sure why we have been poor so far - I suspect it's a mental/psychological issue?

We've had two poor games because Poch and the team have done some bad things in those games, not because of the transfer window.

Personally I wouldn't be against abolishing the transfer windows altogether and allowing clubs to buy whenever they want, but then I also wouldn't mind seeing clubs only allowed to make one, maybe two, transfers within a 12 month period.

So what happens when a European club comes in for one of our players? He will be unsettled, DL will have to deal with it. The only thing that will change is PL clubs wont be able to buy. I think that will be more unsettling.

The winner applies to the first paragraph.

I think a window is great, but I'd be a fan of a one month window in June, and that be it. I'd also love that to be a window for manager sackings/appointments, but that's a separate thing.

Having the window only in June means all teams are set with their squads for the coming season before they even start pre-season. I'd scrap the January window too.

Love the idea of limiting the transfers per club.
