We won't be forced though, if teams try that you just refuse to sell like Liverpool have with Coutinho. If the player acts like a **** about it you fine them and move on, they need to be making an impact for others team come in for them in the next window so have to play ball or face being stuck

I think the problem arises in a situation like we had with Bale.

We all knew he was going, Spurs set about bringing in the 'replacements' and then we still had time to haggle over the price for Bale with Real.

If the deadline was moved, we could have brought in all those replacements, and then Real would have us against wall when negotiating the price for Bale as they'd know we'd need to sell to make back our money.

Obviously that's all manageable, and I suspect what it means is that we'll see much more of teams needing to sell before they buy.

I'm sure there are specific situations where prem clubs like us might come off worse but as a fan I think it's much better. They will sort a way round it surely.

Are we able to open the window earlier to compensate and give us basically the same amount of time? Sorry if it's been covered already, on lunch break and no time to read all the thread.

Nope. The windows are always for buying clubs, not selling. For instance, English clubs can already sell to China or America among others while our window's closed. We don't have the power to change that.

I think you are right - FIFA restricts the registration of players to the associations' 2 windows.
They do not allow the issue of the Internation transfer certificate to be similarly restricted. No reason why they shouldn't, unless the league seasons are totally out of step with ours (Russian league)..

The Fifa rules also say we should give at least 12 months notice of the dates of next season's window. Ooops.

The first registration period shall begin after the completion of the season and shall normally end before the new season starts. This period may not exceed twelve weeks.
The second registration period shall normally occur in the middle of the season and may not exceed four weeks

Right now, it's all hypothetical outcomes of the change. I'm all for a wait and see approach.
If I had my way, the summer window would be open for one month, and the winter window for one week. Far less disruptive. And then make it possible to sign out of contract players all year long, and potentially do the same for loans.

This is how I feel.

Levy will hate this unless all of the top leagues in Europe are subject to it, too. He waits because a lot of the time the targets become available later in the window when clubs have got their replacements in and/or know what they've got for the season.

It'll be nice to know your team before the first match but - financially speaking - I think we'll be the hardest hit by it.

Given the quality we're looking for versus our budget, we'll miss out on some European targets unless we spend more money to get it done before the new deadline.

Can't hate it that much we voted in favour of it happening.
