Baffling how they have let it get to this stage in Marseille.

English fans are always a target abroad. Spurs fans of all people should know that. Firm or shirter, you will be targeted.

You'd have thought they'd have learnt their lesson from 98.

Always likely to be the case. Marseille is a seriously (!!!) tough area, the French police are notoriously heavy handed and nervous, and the England fans are all about 'banter' and booze - volatile!
Marseille sounds more like an asylum to me. Just goes to show that if you import the Third World, you become Third World.

Does anyone else feel embarrassed by fellow Englishfolk abroad? When I was in Amsterdam I felt a constant, deep shame and felt extremely sorry for the locals. And it was almost exclusively people from Britain making fools of themselves. Despite there being plenty of tourists from other countries, it was always fellow Brits spread stomach-down, teetering on edge of a canal.

Not saying the English fans are the sole blame for what's happening in Marseille. Just a general observation.

Anyho, tonight's game should be exciting.

You can make the argument that social class has something to do with it. Spain, Holland, and France are affordable destinations whereas places such US, Japan, etc. tend to require you having a fairly well-paid job.

Donald Trump suggests that no football fans be allowed in or out of the UK till we can determine what is going on. I don;t know how we would figure out if someone is a football fan but his policy sounds sufficiently full of hyperbole that we should do it anyway.

It's all kicking off again today apprently. At some point UEFA is going to ban England supporters from attending matches for a while. That has to be the next step before ultimately resorting banning England from competition for a bit.

The label on the video says 'England fans attack Marseilles Uktras - Yet the video clearly shows Frebch youths starting it throwing bottles at peaceful diners (I doubt they are Marseilles Ultras)

How about teaching the French how to police a football tournament?

Definite agenda IMO

There we go again, those English racist thugs causing harm by sitting there drinking a beer

Just like Yankspurs says, thats awful and they should be banned. Awful behaviour

In all seriousness, where was all the trouble in South Africa and Brazil, if England fans are the problem?

Yeah it's only the English fans, nothing to do with incompetent policing, locals or Russians

Hmm, will wait and see to get full picture

That said, seen some embarrassing middle aged Pot bellied England fans chanting how they hate various different groups of foreigners, in Marseille the home town of the French national front, won't be surprised to see this is our far right wrist jobs squaring up to theirs...and vice versa

They're kinda busy trying to ward off terror attacks tbf.

But you're right in that they should never have held the tournament here against the social & political backdrop as it stands

England fans have caused no problems at all abroad since 1998 which just happened to be in Marseille as well.

I remember some clashes before England v Germany in Euro 2000, but since then I agree I think it's been pretty problem-free.

I think we should ban ourselves. One of our lot is going to die out there.

Plus you are talking absolute bollocks as usual. You are truly clueless.

Yep. I'm as working class as they come, in terms of finances, always have been, but I realised your point while I was there. The only places I felt comfortable were the trendy hipsterish bars like Vesper. That's where I met like-minded people with similar interests. But it was always those with privileged upbringings and good jobs. Mid-way through lengthy discussions on snobby stuff like arthouse cinema and Asian geopolitics I'd be asked what I do for a living and I'd reply that I work in an off-licence, stacking shelves, and that I've failed college four times and never been to university.

Realised I don't really belong anywhere on the social "ladder". Not with fellow working class folks and neither with a middle-class that, in terms of lifestyle are just miles away from my situation. That distance is hard to reconcile into relationships of any substance simply due to the vast difference in life experience. Made me think about how stratified society is.

But I digress.
