SWP will go ahead of Milner, Lennon needs to keep up his recent improvement and King will probably be injured again by then. I would like to see Green go ahead of James but that probably wont happen either. Young could sneak into the squad as well, but having 2 right footed LW's probably isn't a good thing and we all know how much McTwat loves Downing.

Bentley will go before Milner, if either of them go. Also, at this moment, you'd have to think SWP goes before Lennon, and assuming King will have been healthy for long enough to go is a stretch, so prob Sol ahead of him.

I am aware that Milner is unlikely to go, but his performances over the last 2 seasons on the left deserve at least a look. He seems to be a player who would adapt quickly to international football due to a sound technique, and positional awareness. I would never pick bently for England due to the timing and manner in which he pulled out of the U21 squad in the summer.

SWP's delivery in to the box is not consistent enough and his performance in Russia lacked the class and composure required for internaional tournament footabll.

Assuming everybody's fit and it's a 23 man squad

Goalkeepers: Robinson, James, Carson. (Green should be in there but Mclaren won't pick him)

Defenders: G Neville, Richards, Terry, R Ferdinand, Campbell, King, A Cole, Bridge

Midfielders: Beckham, Lennon or Wright-Phillips, J Cole, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Hargreaves, Carrick, Downing(only cost Mclaren loves him)

Strikers: Owen, Rooney, Crouch, Bent.

I think he'll only take 4 strikers. Rooney, Owen and Crouch are certainties for the squad. And that leaves Bent, Defoe, Johnson, Ashton, Smith and Walcott fighting for the final place. And i think by the end of the season Bent will turn out to be the best of those strikes.

I forgot that Barry could act as cover for LB. Also Richards won't be first choice for RB, so he could act as cover for CB as well RB. So we could have 5 strikers after all but will that be necessary if Owen and Rooney are fully fit?

I always think its a better taking 5 strikers and one less midfielder or defender... there tends to be a greater interchangibility between defenders and midfeilders than there is with attackers (e.g, ledley playing in midfield, barry playing all over the place... richards covering the entire backline etc... can't really think of any players who can cover a strikers position competently at international level? if only gary dotherty were english :-()

When was the last time Owen was fully fit, though? With Owen in the squad, we'll probably need five strikers just to cover his injury prone-ness.

And I wouldn't be surprised to see Heskey getting one of those spots, either.

Only guarantees for me are Robbo, Terry, Rio, Phil Neville, both A & J Cole, Gerrard, Fatty, Becks, Rooney, Crouch and Owen. There's highly likely candidates to fill some of the other slots, like Bentley, Lennon, Hargreaves, Carrick, Deadly Ledley (if he's fit), Barry, Bridge & Defoe, but in my opinion there's still maybe 5 or 6 slots that are completely up for grabs and are most likely to go to those in form.

Lescott started with some great shows for Everton, but he's not really been anything approaching good enough for even back up to the full squad for me and i'm surprised Leighton Baines hasn't been more involved. Richards is consistantly good for both club and country, up until his injury, and i think can confidently expect to get on the sheet. Jenas is, i would imagine, will get the once over for the team, depending on if he can put together a few performances like the other day, and i think James can consider himself likely to fill the third keeper slot going on current shows...
