He's been such a smart signing for us and it goes to show how well he was coached at Sporting that he has already played three different positions for a team in the top 6 at such a young age, rarely looking out of place (apart from a couple of wobbly games at RB last season).

However it's his move into midfield that has been the total revelation. We were all bricking ourselves at the start of the season when we did not sign a DM but now we don't need one.

He is such a fantastic prospect.

I love Eric Dier. . .

. . . however I can't see why he'd be picked at CB over Wimmer if Toby is out for a while. I thought that big Kev did really well when he covered for Jan, has an obvious rapport with Son and others in the team so cannot really see why he wouldn't be preferred?

I suppose it depends on how well either himself or Vertonghen can play on their 'wrong' side.

The Vertonghen-Dier partnership was so abysmal that it made the Fazio-Vertonghen partnership look half decent.

He's possibly been too long out of the position to just slot back in and start producing top class performances.

No doubt he can be a good centre half though. Wimmer will surely get a chance now?

He's right footed.

I didn't know which Dier thread to post my comments in, but couldnt be bothered to start a new thread about him. Im surprised no one has mentioned him recently though. It looks to me that the super Eric Dier who performed so superbly in 2015/2016 in DM is back. He kind of lost his way a bit when Wanyama came into the squad last season but it does seem he's almost back to the Dier we know. Hope this form continues.

We wait decades to replace Dave McKay, then two turn up at once.

When Wanyama comes back to full fitness, Poch is gonna have some very difficult choices to make, along with the return of Rose and Lamela.

BC must have hated our second goal yesterday, what with Dier playing two one-touch passes under pressure during the build up.

I think our formation this season suits him better, being the lone dm instead of part of a double pivot allows him to focus on his strengths.

Be interesting when wanyama returns as there is no obvious slot for dier in the defence anymore. Poch has always found a way to include dier in the team when fit in the past though...

Its funny how blase some of our fans have become about Eric Dier. just read some of the ratings and other post about him to understand this unimpressedness, However I see Dier (i'm sure) other do to acknowledge his importance to the team and overall flexibility.

Dier has been fantastic this season for sure. I do however worry about him in some (note some) games against the big teams as i think he can be bypassed too easily by those who have slick passing players (city, pool ect) and move the ball well. In those games id prefer wanyama but otherwise dier is a top midfield general.
He works well with winksy too.

I have been a proponent of him moving back into the center 3 due to his lack of quick feet and tendency to sit on the ball. Past three games or so he has looked quicker with ball but still think top teams will expose him on the ball if left all alone as a cover. But this is a good problem to have as Vic provides a bit more technical ability when on the pitch. Options a plenty

Not many teams could lose Wanyama and Dembele from CM and look so good. Dier is a big part of that. We genuinely have great strength in depth, probably better than our rivals in this position.

I don't think it's coincidence that his best game of the season came with (an on form) Winks as his partner. With Winks actively seeking the ball in space, Dier is not stretched apart at all and his propensity to drop deep doesn't leave the huge gap to the attack that we've witnessed recently.
