As the article says, he had a few flicks and nice touches, but overall, it was another fairly underwhelming performance, but still early days I guess!

I wonder if we had bought him for a couple of million or if he was a youth team player would he be anywhere near the first team?

I can't see him playing too well away from home until he raises his confidence a bit. Hope that he puts in a decent shift against QPR. Would be great to see him show his stuff sooner rather than later, otherwise the pressure on him will begin to mount further. Just seems mental that we actually paid £30m for him!!

Well after seeing him in training Pochettino said he's an unbelievable talent, so he probably would be..

Not sure managers always tell the truth when asked direct questions about players. Hardly going to say I'm still quicker than Dawson is he

Remember an old player from years ago called Bale who was so bad we were guaranteed to lose when he played? Good job someone believed in him!

I think Eric is trying a bit to hard to impress at the moment, he just needs to relax a bit and play his football.

Yeah but why would he say something along the lines of 'he's an unbelievable player and he needs to be given time to show what he can do' if he didn't rate him? That's quite high praise considering it's apparently unnecessary. Surely he'd have just given some old cliche such as 'he's working hard in training' or something otherwise?

None of Lamela's "deft touches" and "unbelievable talent' led to any half-decent scoring opportunity yesterday. But then being one man short is not always a good forum to excel. I still expect Lamela to come good, but he is still very much at the developmental stage in our league. Need to give him more belief and encouragement.

We live in the age of instant gratification. Unless generation now get it.....well now, throw it away. Give this guy a chance. He is an international for Argentina. That at his age is good enough for me. Really think that he has put on a bit of size lately. Good sign of things to come. Great start to season for team to win away in a London Derby with man down for long spell. New signing scoring on debut and Hugo showing what a truly world class player gives you. COYS.

Criticism of Lamela may be fair but extrapolating one performance to how he may or not perform for the rest of the season is just bonkers.

1st competitive match of the season when the team is still adapting to a new manager, style and facing a hostile reception seems an unlikely time for a player who is still adapting to living in England and only 22... hardly a formula for a beyond belief debut.

Patience is the thing we lack the most as fans. Laughable since we criticise our chairman for the same thing.

I wonder if we're all still just coloured by Juergen Klinsmann's incredible debut... and perhaps expect more of the same?

Well he isn't really going to say anything negative is he? That's for us fans to give voice to!
