I'd take this tbh, nothing against Lamela but I feel this would improve our midfield without really weakening us.

Although I'd like to see another attacking mid come in aswell if he does go.

Fair enough, I've never heard of him but would be a bit stupid to potentially piss if your followers for a shitty joke
Agreed. He can be goofy and will occassionally post a misleading stat but the stat is still generally accurate. This would be a troll from him I've not seen from him before. Doesn't mean anything though. None of our itk have backed ot up and media reports seem more tracking thesw rumors than actually reporting anything.

Lamela should be competing with/understudying Eriksen at 10, not out wide like some are suggesting.
That was my thought as well - coming into this season. But, I am not sure if Lamela is quick enough of thought to play the position. He makes some lovely passes to be sure, but he dwells on the ball, when he needs to be keeping the ball moving.

He's just come back from a year out. Once he gets up to speed again he'll be class at 10. He's shown glimpses of it already. He'll also be really effective pressing at 10 - he'll put in the tackles that Eriksen won't.

Eriksen controls the pace of the game and is very comfortable and good at receiving the ball in tight spaces, neither of which has Lamela displayed the same abilities. Could see him maybe playing in a Dele role but I don't think he can replace Eriksen.

For what it's worth, I think Lemina would be more useful for the squad now than Lamela.

But I'm not really sure that the two are linked anyway, and if we want a player like Lemina we should be going out and looking for one to buy, and not at the expense of our depth of options in attack.

But anyway...this whole rumour is clearly bollocks so it matters not a jot.

We gain nothing by selling or loaning out Lamela. He's still a very good player, he just needs time to get back to his best.

He may not have a big impact this season but adding Lucas takes the pressure off him that bit more and if anything allows us to move Lamela inside and spell Eriksen when we need to.

I'm not discounting that Lamela is still on the road to regaining form after over a year without regular football, but do we have time to wait it out? 18 months left on his contract, and he'll be 26 this summer. He'll be looking to sign a contract that rewards him in the prime of his career, but we'd be crazy to offer it based on a history of consistent injuries and about 9 months of first team caliber performances.

It's a very tricky position for the club and the player.

Also, I don't know if we've ever found Lamela's position. He's never shown the ability to be a 10, and he doesn't have the pace to play a true wide position. He was probably at his best when he played the Dele-esque role of free range attacking player, but he never contributed enough goals.

I think we'd be crazy to pass up a deal to shift him and strengthen our midfield (which is severely lacking creativity with Winks injured and Dembele aging).

That said, when he was at his best, his tenacity and constant movement were fantastic. If we felt we could get that back in short order, I'd love to see it again.
