My God it was good to see him return to some decent form! He makes such a difference to this otherwise ordinary side.

Yes, great to see him back to his best. The real challenge for Eriksen is to deliver that level of performance much more consistently. The passion and ambition he showed yesterday when he ran the midfield for us is something he needs to show in every Premier League game. If he can find more hunger and consistency he can turn into a world class player and perhaps finally fill the void left by Modders.

So the answer is to be determined to prove yourself in every game and to try hard to have the ball.

Points of note:
He (everyone) was fairly quite in the first half at 11 v 11
He was better when it was 11 v 10
He was considerably better when he tucked into a more central position.

I'll feel better when he starts to contend for player of the month and not just man of the match.

Nice to see him step up and wanting to prove himself after being subbed at half time twice, can think of a handful of our players who would have thrown a paddy and kicked up a stink.

IMHO he's one of the very few intelligent players we have and when in central midfield, provided he's up for it, can be a decisive game winner. Hopefully he can kick on from the Hull game and give us the consistency we need from his future performances

Thought he was actually quite poor when Hull were at full strength and pressing hard. Got caught for pace quite a bit and lost possession too often. Came into his own when Hull couldn't get hold of the ball and turned the game around for us, but a long way short of some of the plaudits he's getting IMO.

Couldn't see him in a central 2 at this stage, especially as we don't possess a Sandro/Parker type to play alongside.

I can't help but compare him to 'early Modric' so maybe starting from the left, drifting inside with an attacking left back pushing on - just how Harry used Luka before he was ready to move inside.

He needs a free role he it's what he is suited to, build around him IMO he is the best outfield player we have.

MoPo has to find the right place for him in the team.
In the first half he was stuck out left - kept coming inside and left acres of space for them/any team to attack down the right.
It is a similar problem with our best players - all being played in positions that don't best suit their skill set.

With that in mind….
Dier should be a CB.
Soldado needs a partner upfront.
Eriksen has to have a central role.

MoPo needs to rethink his interactive 5 upfront interchangeable tippy- tappy nonsense.

Lamela? I have no idea as to his best position.
I'd rather have an out and out "in-form" Lennon on the right - at least he chases back and when Walker is fit - they're a good combo.

Chadli - on the left then?

The team starts to pick itself…With our biggest problem being the central midfield pairing.

How good is Stambouli? He looked great for Montpellier - Surely he's worth a try as a defensive midfielder ahead of the out of form Dembele, over-rated Bentaleb and disappointing Capoue?

Hard to fit them all in and then Eriksen - but stick to a solid formation and players in their best positions and then the team will develop - at this moment in time it ain't developing nothing!

He was hiding at times in the first half and like a lot of our players was not prepared to earn the right and space to play. When the space was handed over to us by them going down to 10 men he came into his own and started to run the game. I think we have a potential star in him but until he is prepared to dig in and work his nuts off (especially off the ball) in tight games he'll remain a nearly player IMHO.

Hence, our player acquisition plan was and still buy first think later?

Yes he definitely looked a better player centrally, and when they were reduced to 10 men. Hardly surprising.

Erikson developed a reputation through his displays for Ajax in the Champions League. A competition where tactics and patience are paramount.

Unfortunately we are a long way short of that level, hence Erikson struggling.

Dembele wouldn't get anywhere a starting lineup of a Champions league club, and his inability to efficiently move the ball meant a lot of the space we were trying to create was null and void due to our inability to move the ball fast enough. This has a huge impact on Erikson who with his intelligence needs to expose the opposition by being given the ball with time and space... Unfortunately this is not a luxury we are having at the moment due to our poor passing... Most notably from Dembele in the middle of the park.

We saw why Dier is our second choice back up RB. Not assertive enough going forward, and exposed by Brady too often while defending. A needless yellow showed he was getting caught out, but doing an admirably job in Walker and Naughton's absence.

Davies I thought did ok. He clearly is not blessed with lightening pace, therefore his crossing needs to be at the same level as Baines... Obviously not there yet, but with continued exposure and the game time and experience to learn from a good fullbacks best strength other than defending properly is being dangerous by delivering... That means he needs to be shut down, therefore creating space for our attacking threats further forward. Defensively made me feel a lot more assured than Rose, who after Stoke's second goal proved how much he still has to learn in that role.

What is up with Stambouli? Any more information as to why he hasn't had a kick... Seems an odd transfer.

If I had to guess on Stambouli, I would say that maybe he has openly complained or said something to upset Poch. I would guess that several players are currently being given 'the cold treatment'. I wouldn't be surprised, as Poch has possibly needed to stamp down his authority on the squad in order to avoid a bit of a mutiny there. The players' lethargy and general disinterest so far this season, had been there for everyone to see (at least on the pitch anyway).
