Seems a bizarre move to me, they've just signed Modric plus have a stack of other players for that area and Essien is still trying to get back to his best???
They sold Lass Diarra to Anzhi, Sahin on loan to Liverpool and Granero to QPR. I think they're left with Alonso, Modric and Khedira in CM. I'm sure they're bringing him in to replace Diarra for this season
