Townsend should have been in the squad ahead of Sterling.

Yep Townsend as a natural left winger would have been a far better choice than Sterling (although I'd have taken both so had couple of natural wingers).

Personally I would have put Lallana on the left, and (despite his injuries and lack of fitness) Sturridge on the right.

Let the inverted wingers cut inside whilst Rose and Walker bomb down the flanks.

I think that the talent is there but too many egos and a poor (imo) manager who is just an FA yes man.

All players that were involved in the fiasco at the World cup should never wear an England shirt again let alone captain one. Too many of the players think they are bigger than the team and I would rather they rebuild from scratch and lose a few tournaments if it sends a clear message to the spoiled idiots we have playing (new faces excepted) that mediocrity is not accepted. Rooney the captain after spitting at fans?

Todays performance was a joke and way below what England are capable of. At the top level you just can't waste so many chances!!! I just don't see any desire to win and win big. The majority just see content to coast along and see what happens . I truly hope they pick up their game and prove me wrong as I want England to win. I just don't see it happening as the mindset feels wrong to me.

Overall one of the better England performances in an actual championship.

Agree with others that the subs killed us. Fresh legs going forward was needed. Should have been vardy and wilshere for kane and sterling in my view. I know its not allowed as Spurs fane but Wilshre is needed in this team. He can beat a player and play fast passes. I'd start him against Wales.

Nice goal by Dier. Love the fact now Spurs players have scored more competition finals goals than any other team.

Don't like the fact that I feel as pissed off with England conceding last minute goals as I do when Spurs do. At least at the last world cup with none of our players in the squad i couldn't give a shit.

I think we will beat wales, they are average and will be up for it but we should be able to dominate them. Just need to create better chances and take them.

Danny Rose - how good was he...
Can I say, everytime he is playing nowadays he is reminding me of Marcelo.
Apart from Alaba & Marcelo, I can't think of a better free flowing attacking LB in the world right now.

Not read through the posts but I expect we universally agree that the weak link was Sterling. Another speed merchant who then does not know what to do with the ball when he gets it into danger areas. Shame really as I thought the first half was as good as I have seen from England ... except for the finishing especially Lallana.

The subs were weird but then it was Roy reverting to his favourite players, with his defensive hat on. The game was crying out for Vardy, with Kane, instead of Sterling and Wiltshire for Lallana who was less effective by the end.

Walker was again outstanding with Rose, Dier and Alli putting in good performances. As for Harry I think, just as against Portugal, his game was hindered by taking free kicks and corners(!!!) Such a waste of such a natural goalscorer; especially with Rooney in midfield. Harry needs to be in the box as much as possible

Shame about the result though as overall England actually looked like a team of footballers

I'm still shaking my head wondering how the fuck we managed too draw that game. On the upside we actually looked decent.

I thought we were excellent for about 80 mins overall... but missed chances, the highest scoring Englishman in years taking dead balls, and wasted counter attacks were always going to let a team in... even one as overall shite as Russia.

A game is never over at 1-0, and we needed to increase the pressure, not sit back... we haven't the defence and midfield for those tactics, we now rely on possession and aggression... hence why the full backs and attacking midfielders were having such good games.

But Hodgson... well he's a bit of a softie unfortunately and we'll never flourish with him. It was the coaching of another manager that created that performance.

Owl face fault

Why take off Rooney ,he was playing well

Alli should be the one off if he wants to bring on Wilshere

And Vardy should have been on for Kane after we scored

To counter attack them with his pace

The Milner sub was just nonsense

Doesnt matter anyway, if we cant get out of this group of mediocrity we shouldnt be there anyway. I thought wales and slovakia were poor.

I would love to be a pundit or a sports writer as I think I would be the only person telling the truth. Ive read a number of papers ratings this morning and they all seem to give Sterling a 7 or an 8! Peter Taylor has his ratings on Sky and said it was a superb performance from Sterling.........and gave him an 8....the only player better being Dier.......

Honestly I dont know if these guys are scared of upsetting the apple cart or something but I watched the game last night at my brothers with ten of us, and all of us were saying that Sterling was a f*cking disgrace last night. After that performance he should be put to the back of the team list & only put back into the team if a load of freak injuries happen. He couldnt pass to any of our team, every time he ran with the ball he lost it, and his work rate was disgusting which meant that Rose constantly had two players on him.

Other than Sterling, I thought Kane was really poor last night, he looked so tired pretty much straight away and didn't habve any influence. I think he will be dropped against Wales for either Sturridge or Vardy.

I like this idea, I think Sturridge and Kane would be the best pairing. It's a shame he's injury prone, he's much better than Vardy.

How was Sterling a disgrace? Its not like he wasn't trying. Didn't he create a very good chance for Alli? People on here are ripping him but I thought he was OK, end product didn't come off for him yesterday but he stretched their full back at times, was no worse than Kane.

Sterling was no where near a "disgrace" he just looked a bit short of confidence.

I felt Sterling and Rose dovetailed really well in fact both wings did, it was a good performance just missed being clinical in front of goal.

It could easily have been 4-0
