This tournament is the traditional curtain raiser to the season's under 19 programme, which will mainly be the Next Gen Series competition - Spurs won it last year.

The Eurofoot u 19 tournament is held between Friday 3rd August and Sunday 6 August at Oostduinkerke, Belgium.
http://www.eurofoot2000.be/paginas/eng/index.html

Group Stage Matches :
Friday, 3 August v Ath Paranaense (Brazil) , 10.45 (UK), 11,45 (local)
Friday, 3 August vZulte Waregem (Belgium), 14.00 (UK), 15.00 (local)
Saturday, 4 August v FC Utrecht (Holland), 10.15 (UK), 11.15 (local)
Saturday, 4 August v Club Brugge (Belgium), 13.30 (UK), 14.30 (local
Saturday, 4 August v Standard Liege (Belgium), 18.30 (UK), 19.30 (local)

The remaining matches including the final will be played on Sunday, 5 August

The group matches and semi finals consist of 2 halves of 25 minutes, the finals are 2 halves of 30 minutes.

The Eurofoot site is updated shortly after the end of the matches, and sometimes during the game.

Only players under 19 are allowed to participate. They have to be born between January 1, 1994 and December 31, 1995, both limit data included. Players born before the first date are not allowed to play. In any game, not more than 5 players, born after the second date, are allowed to play.

The 18 man squad has not yet been announced, but will be drawn mainly from the new Academy Year 2 with Luke McGee, Liam Priestley and Daniel Akindayiuni from the new Academy Year 1 also eligible.

Other players who are eligible include Souleymane Coulibally, Giancarlo Gallifuco, Laste Dombaxe, Tomislav Gomelt and Milos Veljkovic. However as there is a Spurs X1 match at Northampton on Saturday Coulibaly and several others could be involved in that match rather than going to this tournament.

Enjoy ! Relax from a stressful transfer window where nothing is expected to happen until next week ! (not ITK, so just keep one eye on the news ;) )

Ray Lo (SO) is covering the tournament so a few tweets plus a detailed report on the matches - Ray is probably the best of the Spurs youth watchers at writing match reports

10 McQueen D. Darren 08/05/95, Academy Year 2, Left sided forward

18 Coulthierst Shaquile 2/11/94, Academy Year 2, Striker

Spurs are very light on speacialist defenders in this squad, the best defender at this level (Oliver Modeste) is now back in training after recovering friom being in intensive care but likely to be a month or two away from playing. The only specialist defender, Thomas Gardiner, played very little last season, however the squad has a number of players who have played CB (eg Alex McQueen and Dominic Ball) whilst FB duties will probably be mainly carried out by Grant Ward and Roman Michael-Percil

Ray Lo on first game v the Brazillian side - think it underlines my comments on lack of defenders in the squad

Ray Lo@RayLo18
Spurs lose their opening game 4-1 to Paranaense. Mistakes gave them a 3 goal cushion

Kenneth McEvoy is the kid that looks like Bale, isn't he? Anybody been following his progress? I don't seem to recall reading much about him since that one news story where his picture was posted (I think he scored 4 goals in a game?). He scored a couple more shortly after that too, but that's the last I remember of him.

Maybe we could slip him in against Liverpool, let the thuggee Adam foul him and get a 10 season ban, and then sent the real Bale out and say:

HA HA

That's the one. Has played a fair bit for Spurs u 18 last season and did well as an attacking midfielder. Expect to see him in NextGen Series squads this season - first game likely to be in mid August (fixture lists announced next week)

Always wondered - how are teams picked for the nextgen comp? There's no qualifying, right?

Correct, NextGen is set up as a private company and not actually run by UEFA. Last year they seemed to have approached clubs they new and a few others to get the 16 clubs necessary to get the first competition away, and enlarged it this season to 24 clubs. But its all by invitation only, and generally reflects the clubs having the best academies

Which, to take one example, Liverpool, is mad - when you reflect on how far ahead our philosophy and facilities are over theirs now, and yet they were considered to have one of the top 16 in the country.
