With the season coming closer to its end I am hearing a number of our fans spouting the old crap about how it will be better if we come 7th and don't qualify for the Europa League next season.

I wanted to get an idea as to whether this was the general feeling amongst our fans so I've whipped out a bloody nice Graham Poll.

I personally think its ludicrous to want us to not be competing in the Europa League next season or any season(Barring rare qualification to the promised land Champions League).

Reasons for:
-It is a chance to win a trophy
-It brings in decent revenue
-It is a chance to qualify for the Champions League
-It provides us with the opportunity to use our large squad in more matches
-Floodlight European evenings and more Spurs on TV
-A club like Tottenham should always be in Europe so said some guy!

COYS!

Yes, I enjoy watching us compete in Europe and I think if we want to strive for being a club capable of competing in the CL and domestically that we must keep it. I also very much like (hope) that it's an opportunity for further rotation, which is good for fringe players and youth.

It depends. If we're actually going to compete in it and not go crashing out pathetically like we did for the past 4 seasons then yes. If not then it is a massive waste of time and is just holding us back from achieving other things.

I've always supported our involvement in the competition but I'm beginning to feel like it's pointless if we don't fully commit to it, which we never do, so I've voted no.

Yes, more money, more prestige, more games for our youth and fringe players, and spurs on the tv more.

At the end of the day, where would Harry Kane be without the Europa league?

I'd prefer us to be in the Champions League next season!

But that unlikely eventuality aside, it's an emphatic yes for Europa.

Why not be in EL. More games for the whole squad to get game time especially if MP gets some of his targets. If we can't compete in it as well as domestic then why try for the CL?

I've also always supported being in it and of course now winning it means CL BUT....the bottom line is that successive managers develop some kind of mental deficiency over it every year.

We should either:

A. Go all out to win it and play our strongest side to get through - we have never really done this and we screwed up even qualifying for the quarters this year by resting players for the critical away leg in favour of a relatively meaningless League Cup final (I will no doubt get panned for that but with your sensible hat on you know it's true)

B. Treat it as a training and blooding exercise and leave the first 11 AT HOME/off work for every game - we have never done this for some reason

C. Act smart and only play ANY of the first 11 in the last 16/quarters and onwards IF we think we have a good draw OR nothing to play for in league - we seem incapable of doing this every year

So in summary we are incapable of playing it correctly, even now there is CL for the winner, so the answer is, regrettably, NO NO NO

You cannot finish in the top 4 of the toughest league in Europe if you take it pretty seriously and get through to the latter stages of the Europa League unless maybe you have the squad of an established CL side

I think the whole competition is designed to keep the same old sides in the CL each season

UEFA has announced the detailed financial distribution system for its club competitions for the 2015-18 cycle. The amounts available to the participating clubs and to solidarity payments have tremendously increased from the 2012-15 cycle.

A new distribution system has been adopted by UEFA, in close cooperation with the European Club Association (ECA). All revenues of the two competitions will for the first time be centralised into one single pot, with the redistribution to participating clubs based on a fixed ratio of 3.3:1 between UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. During the current 2012-15 cycle, with two separate revenue and distribution pots and no set ratio established between the two competitions, clubs in the UEFA Europa League receive about €1 every €4.3 received by clubs in UEFA Champions League.

Yes I want us to be in it as long as we manage it well, I want more of the youngsters involved with a mix of first teamers.

Given the marvellous sort of football we've played since we were kicked out of the tournament, I see no reason not to be there. We are equally able to fuck up PL-matches whether we are in it or not.

Voted yes. But truly would not worry if we did not.
