Sky and the media are desperate for Everton to do well and, particularly, finish above us. Don't get carried away by the hype. They will stay in their designated mid-table position.

It's no wonder other fans don't like us.

Yeah, but they're all chucking money around too which guarantees they'll get better. Whereas we're not going to sign anyone at all despite the fact that all our players have peaked and, if anything, are now on a downward trajectory. I guarantee we'll finish no higher than 7th next season.

Fancy a SC donation wager?

Not sure if srs

If we sign no one, or no one of real quality, you won't be far off

What's the problem here?

7th?

Far more likely the league position will depend on Wembley-itis than not signing a wonder player.

Seems to most that we have the amongst the best first eleven in the league; bringing in names just to keep more insistent fans happy reeks of poor decision making.

Much MUCH rather a happy and united 17-18 players work their socks off like the last two years than we toss all that away just 'cos.

All well and good, but as fergie used to say in his titles winning teams, the players get too settled and lose an edge so he brought in players to compete with them and changed it around. If you think we can have a title challenge with same team and the likes of nkoudu and Sissoko on the bench, whilst the others but the lacezzetes and silvas, you are in for a suprise. Add Wembley factor to that and there's a worry

Anyone thinking that they wont challenge for 4th is nuts. They have always been tough to beat Barkley will not be a great loss and if they manage to sign Rooney and Sigurdson with their experience I expect them to take points off all the contenders including us

Fuck, are u actually serious?

They'll do very well to finish 6th, very well.
And thats as high as I see them finishing.

A couple of good signings, that may need time to adjust, isn't going to catapult them to near the top of the league.

Lose Lukaku and they are stuffed. Players who can score 20 goals a season are a rare commodity indeed

I think they'll do well, Pickford and Michael Keane are fantastic signings for them. They aren't just signing a bunch of foreigners like we did.

Hope they do well, I like the way they've been integrating younger players into their squad over the past few seasons.

Koeman has done a decent job there but still not sure about his management style... feels like he calls out player faults too quickly rather than putting an arm around them

I don't think they stand a chance. Sure, they might have the players for it (although I'm very sceptical), but the toughest part is the mental aspect. The stress and pressure of basically having to win every game, facing teams parking the bus, always having to be the one who takes the initiative and be the driving force in games is difficult to cope with.

We struggled with this for a long time, yes we weren't as good as we were last season, but on paper we were good enough to easily beat most of the teams in the league, yet we would regularly mess up against the likes of Newcastle, Sunderland, West Ham, Stoke etc.

Also, you're not allowed lenghty periods of bad form as there are 6-7 teams competing for 4 spots. And even when you play well and get results it's not certain that you will have all that much to show for it as there will be other teams who are hammering out win after win after win. Then you lose or draw one or two games and suddenly you' find yourself with a considerable gap to the teams above you, and the team that was behind you all season have managed to catch up and now it's just an onslaught from every direction. You can't really learn how to handle that by battling for place 6-10.

They do have a couple of young players who are quite good though, and their owner does seem to have rather deep pockets. So it's pretty likely that they'll be able to challenge in the future. I just think this will be at least one season too early.

It will definitely be interesting to see how it pans out, but personally I don't see them having the consistency over a whole season to threaten us. As mentioned, they don't have a single player that would get into our first XI.

They may have a decent go at the top four, most of the reason I say this is because I think Koeman is a very good manager. However, I really think that being in the Europa will hinder them massively with this, especially being new to it.

I reckon the best signing they could make at this stage would be Giroud, as losing Lukaku seems inevitable. You can knock him all you like but if he started up top for Everton all year I would be very surprised if he scored less than 15 in the league. Rooney and Sandro would not replace Lukaku in the same way. Obviously Sandro is a bit of an unknown quantity but there's not many examples of strikers coming from Spain and killing it from the off, other than Torres and Aguero who were genuine top level players.

Why they're going for Rooney I don't know. Giroud and Sigurdsson should be top of their list right now.

Indeed, I remember similar stuff being said about Stoke not so long back. They are some decent signings but they aren't enough to bridge last season's 15 point gap, not to mention who they are losing, Europa, and that everyone above them is strengthening as well.
