Nope don't think they will over take us. Certainly not this season, but top manager, ambitious new owner, and spending money. Good club generally. If we don't buy much this season we won't next year eitherOr when Liverpewel weren't going to make the same mistakes we made. Y'know, when they sold Suarez. But...whoops...they made the same mistakes we made
I'm probably the least hostile to Everton on here (for reasons previously given), but I agree with they won't get near the top four this season. Maybe in future seasons they can become more of an outside threat, but not now. And when I say an outside threat I do mean just that. A run of finishes like we with the odd Lasagna-Gate (well, it's Liverpewel, maybe Rat-Kebab-Gate), and the very odd excursion into CL. But the Ruskie crook spent a billion in unpaid loans, before ensuring no-one else can do the same - and they still didn't actually displace United, just became their main competitors. And the top is far more competitive now.
I also agree with @Gbspurs - I don't know that anyone on this thread has actually said Everton will overtake us imminently (though @millsey is certainly hinting at it) but I have seen articles rushing to say we are most under threat from Everton. No, we aren't! Liverpool and City have managers who have yet to show they understand with the intensity and commitment required to cope with more lowly opposition as well as the top level. Neither, has shown that they quite know how to build a defence that is going to be able to cope with these type of games where negative teams sit deep and where they won't just give up if they are a goal down. Guardiola at least has the notion that buying players from clubs like us who have operated in a successful defence at the top end of the table, and can afford to do that. But what about Klopp? And Liverpool finished way below our points total last year despite not having any European distractions. By the time Everton's money starts to take effect, we will have our new stadium online. We actually have the team, we aren't trying to build it - just pad it out. And so much of our future is based on our productive youth system anyway - that isn't really going to be touched by Everton being able to outspend us or keep up with us on spending.
If no-one drops out, Everton could turn it into a top seven - but it will probably take them at least half a decade of niggling around sixth/fifth, and finishing above one or two of the top six a few times every year like we did, to do that.
