Sam Allardyce is favourite to take over at Everton, and Everton fans are desperate for any positives they can glean from this news. So far, it's

1. He might keep them up

big sam is the right move. Stay up, pay him off and then regroup in the summer....chance of landing a good manager at that point

He’s got the bent over, he can demand a 2 or 3 year deal or enormous 18 month deal. And he now knows he was never their first choice, or even second possibly.

And what’s their thinking? One minute they are after Silva - a completely different coach to Allardyce- who’s much more like Martinez who they sacked 18 months ago.

If they want a coach like Silva why are they even considering Allardyce, go and get another coach who’s profile is more like Silva’s.

Because they don't know what they are doing. Unimaginative going for flavour of the month Silva anyway rather than looking for a coach they actually need. Allerdyce probably suits the club and players they have more than him anyway.

All a mess and they will have to spend in January. It's just a shame we've no deadwood we can shift to them. I'd say Sissoko but with our midfield injuries we actually need him at the moment.

I like to come back into this thread from time to time to remind myself that it’s called “Everton going for top 4” and read some of the shit-yourself posts where people were screwing because they’d signed Klassen :ROFLMAO:

I hope he gets a decent contract. I am actually interested to see what he could do given time and money to spend.

I'm still dismayed that people (not necessarily on here, more the general public) were satisfied when allerdyce got the England job.

This is the problem with Allardyce.

I don't think he has ever really done a bad job but Bolton aside the fans get pissed off with the football he plays.

To be fair he plays to win within the restraints of their budgets.

Sure, I'm not anti-Allardyce. I did say he has never done a bad job, which few managers can claim.

At Bolton he got the likes of Okocha and Djorkaeff playing with flair past their prime.

I've always been interested to see how he would do at a team with bigger resources and if he would get them playing. But at the same time I wouldn't want him as Spurs manager.

I assume he won't be. They see themselves as a club who should be competing for top 4 finishes and so they're after a progressive manager to take them to the next level. I think Sam is the right appointment for now but I think they'll want someone more glamorous-sounding in the summer, rightly or wrongly.

Yeah I'd be interested too as I feel he wants to play better football but a case of sorting the basics out first like the defence and then he builds from there.

He didn't have long at Newcastle so can't judge on that and at West Ham they are a bit of a mad lot so you don't know if things were perhaps iffy behind scenes in terms of getting in players he wanted.

Other recent jobs like Sunderland and Crystal Palace were short-term keep them up remits.

With a decent owner backing him with money for who he wants I'd be interested to see what he does.

Everton have a pretty decent back line and goalkeeper already so he can work with that without having to massively overhaul he'd just need to look at getting in a decent centre forward and perhaps looking at their creative midfield options - I'm presuming Klasseen has been out injured?

A very old backline though, one of his biggest jobs is shifting out Williams, Jagielka and Baines before they become a hazard (you can argue that Williams already is). They need defenders and an out-and-out striker.

What I do think he will manage is get the likes of Gueye and Schneiderlin to find the form we know they're capable

Good win for Everton... Scrappy goal but a big one from Ron...

They are now in the top half of the table.... Their season is back on track. Crisis over IMO.

Glad we visited them early this season.

I could see them sneaking into the European places if they keep this up. Fat Sam will probably spend a bit in January as well.

Them and Leicester fighting for 8th on current form. Will take Burnley's form to drop for them to get higher though. 8th doesn't get you Europe.
