Tottenham are attempting to hijack Everton's £5m bid for Sheffield United defender Kyle Naughton.

Everton hoped Naughton, 21, would undergo a medical and sign over the weekend but it is understood Spurs are now serious rivals for his signature.

Aston Villa are also monitoring the situation, with boss Martin O'Neill an admirer of the England Under-21 star.

Everton remain hopeful, while BBC Sport understands Spurs are set to hold talks with Blades' defender Kyle Walker.

The highly rated Naughton was outstanding in Sheffield United's run to the Championship play-off final last season, where the Blades lost to Burnley.

The full-back has been at Bramall Lane since the age of eight, coming through the same youth system as Everton defender Phil Jagielka.

Which of the 2 Kyle's will it be?

Got a feeling Naughton wont pick us, Everton can at least offer him reserve team football while he learns his way to the 1st team. Hope i'm wrong tho as he seems very highly rated indeed.

Think we'll get Walker and loan him back to em tho.

If this is true then I don't understand it. I have read both are right back players. How many of those do we need?

think Naughton is a left back so there would be no harm in signing him at all if he's highly rated and not afraid of the bright lights

As for the agreement for the other player maybe we should have left Bale at Southampton for a season after buying him, might have helped him.

why bringh in this lad hes no way gona play and we've stil got gunter who i think will develop into a top player. he already shows class when he plays at international level and has never let us down. he can play across the back line aswell unlike naughton
