Actually quite the shame, that a competition filled with upsets and lower league teams competing and troubling the top teams finishes with a moneybags team thrashing another premiership team.

This business about counting the Charity Shield as a trophy is a bit shabby and clingy.

Not a lot different to the European Super cup. Champions v Cup Winners.

So will next season be between City A v City B. Got give credit where it's due they've been excellent this season and I've enjoyed watching them, mainly because they are what they are, built to do what they've done.

And we knocked them out of the big one.

City have done it without paying for any big egos, which is a credit to Pep.
But my admiration stops there!

City have bought their success without a doubt, but Pep has clearly done a brilliant job there. They haven’t bought any massive names and they’ve kept the transfer fees relatively reasonable by today’s standards (no Neymar for £200m or Pogba for £90m). There’s no reason any other top 6 side couldn’t have signed Bernado Silva for £40m for example.

I have no problem with City buying their success. Every club does or tries to depending on how much they can spend. If it was us we'd be celebrating just as the City fans are. If uncle Joe threw the cheque book at Dan and said no limit we'd be like pigs in shit.

I honestly think trophies and Pep are the reason they've built the squad they have. Money has been important, but every big team spends. Not every big team dominates and can keep a squad happy.

FFP is obviously pin pointing them, but that's a different issue.

For as long as I remember the community shield was never considered a major trophy until recently, I believe Jose was the first one to reference it.
Sorry, are you talking about what was originally the Charity Shield, the opening game to the full season?
As many people used to watch that as the FA cup final!

It's not that simple. If we got bought out tomorrow by some Arab consortium and suddenly had unlimited funds would that actually bring you any joy? We'd win more matches and sign better players and at first it would be great, but it's like using a cheat code in a video game - it's fun for a little while but it completely devalues everything. I mean, why do we really watch football anyway? It's the hope, the romance, the surprise. If it becomes a series of rote 4-0 wins displaced with the occasional freak loss...where's the joy in that? Especially when it's funded by dirty oil money.

Hand on heart I'd much prefer us to keep building the way we are rather than being bought out. Even if that means we only win the league once in the next 20 years - that single league title would be worth more than 10 of Man City's.

Pep is hilariously salty about us knocking them out the CL. Being at pains to point out winning a domestic treble is far more difficult o achieve than any CL win ?

Because people are excited about the start of the new season after 3 months without Premier League football. It's always been regarded as something of a glorified pre-season friendly though hasn't it? At best a taster for the real business that lies ahead. Still is viewed that way in my mind or am I missing something?
