From Spanish based journalist Andrew Gaffney who provided good info on the transfer of Soldado - these comments sourced from interview in Spanish to journalist @carlosperezED whose broadcast on twitter (in Spanish) and in newspaper (link below). The twitter version in English is easier to read than google translate of the Spanish

Andrew Gaffney‏@GaffneyVLC
Some good news for Tottenham and perhaps the player himself as Sevilla’s president admits they are working on a deal to re-sign Fazio.

Andrew Gaffney‏@GaffneyVLC
Castro: “It’s true we are working on different (defensive) options & Fazio is one of them. But as nothing is closed,
he’s just an option

Andrew Gaffney‏@GaffneyVLC
Castro: “It’s clear Fazio didn’t leave [us] how we’d have wanted; he angered me greatly. But I need to look at what is best for Sevilla."

Andrew Gaffney‏@GaffneyVLC
A sticking point to getting a deal done is that the clubs are not on good terms. He’d love to return as he still owns a house in Sevilla.

I know that a number of you will be pleased that Federico is being considered by Sevilla, but, as his adoptive father, I should like to point out that he has done very little wrong this season.

Toby has come into the team and done well, but the fact remains that, of the two players, Federico has probably made slightly fewer mistakes this season than Toby. Federico has also been part of the squad for six games and only had 1 poor performance.

Some churlish souls might point out that Toby has played over 20 games for us and that, of Federico's six, he never left the bench for five of them, but these are mere statistics. The fact remains that, compared to last season, Fazio's errors are much reduced.

I, for one, will be sad to see him leave. We have a squad of young, hungry, keen players, but they lack experience of winning trophies. To have Fazio in their midst, to be able to look up to him and think 'Wow, he's won a European trophy' must be genuinely inspiring and make them think that they can do it too. 'If Federico can, then surely we can' they must be thinking. And, for that reason among many others, I will be sad to see him go.

Farewell Federico. Others may not miss you. I will. Others may spell your first name wrong. But I won't. All the best.

Best move for all concerned. 5-6mill, get it done so the bloke can play the game he loves and we can promote ccv.

Never understood why we bought him. I'm sure he'd do ok in a team that didn't play as high as ours but he was far too slow.

The only things he has in common with our initial choice, Mateo Musacchio, is that he's Argentinian & plays centre back.

This is my only issue with his purchase. I think he's a decent player in truth, but he was simply a terrible selection for the system we intended to run. A "black box" wasn't required to recognize this, as any yahoo who watched even a half of him at Sevilla could see that he wouldn't have the wheels for a high line.

Very unimaginative purchase IMO, and I really think we should have done better at the time.

It was just the case that we desperately needed a CB and there was a short time to find one after Poch came in. It's a bit harsh to be too hard on Fazio being signed the summer Poch joined, I imagine he had very little time to have any opinion on him and just went with it.

Plus his partnership with Jan during our most successful run last season was a large reason why we finished 5th, he was pretty crucial during that time there was nobody else that could have done better.

Obviously it's time for him to go now as he doesn't really fit.

So, CCV or Veljkovic (new contract?) taking his place in the squad? CCV being in the Europa League squad seemed to hint at that. I guess Dier could be considered our emergency/4th CB, as well.

When will we next face Chelscum. Would very much like him to thump Costa in the stomach again.

Good move for both parties.

We have enough defensive cover with Kevin Wimmer and we can always shift Dier back to CB with decent CM's to come back in if needed.

Let's get shut of Townsend now too and bring in a striker since Clinton is out for a while.

Sevilla manger Unai Emery has confirmed the club are in negotiations to re-sign Federico Fazio from Spurs. #THFC

“Now, I know Fazio, and the hierarchy are working on this matter, but I haven’t asked for anything. There’s an advantage with Fazio as everyone knows him. Anyone who can help us is welcome.”

I'm probably in the minority. I actually believe Fazio is a good defender and given the right partnership and DM his ok.

He's "ok", yes. But he doesn't suit our system and doesn't play so it's better for everybody if he goes

The transfer window officially opened yesterday in Spain & Sevilla made their first bid for Federico Fazio but it was rejected by Tottenham.

Andrew Gaffney ‏@GaffneyVLC 37s37 seconds ago
The offer was a loan deal with various clauses inserted that, if met, would trigger a permanent deal in the summer. Levy didn’t like it.

The two sides are continuing to talk in the hope of finding a compromise which will allow Fazio to return to Sevilla. [via @RarrochaR]

We've not got the best relationship with Sevilla. Can't see us loaning him to them
