You need attendances, and revenue to drive things forward. Which most likely means countries that like football will be more likely to put bums on seats to watch the womens game. Eventually one of the european leagues the WSL will get a big deal, and jump ahead of the pack.

Name a country that likes women's football more than the US? They're literally more popular than the men's team.

They'd likely make it to the last stages of the UEFA Champions League every year if they played in it.

But they dont, and thats the point. As strong as they are now, thats likely to change sooner or later. Europe is a competitive place, and that drives quality.

I'm convinced enough to go support tottenham ladies next season, mostly cos i cant afford £1000 for a season ticket, £50 is a lot easier on the wallet, and i'll cheer on the affiliated-spurs.

To be fair....the Portland Thorns in the WSL average 16,000 attendees per match. That attendance would put the Portland Thorns at #20 in the EPL, #15 in the Championship, #3 in League 1 and #1 in League 2 in attendance and would put them inside the Top 20 attendance in virtually every European Men's league.

Women's soccer is also exceptionally well funded in the US at every level thanks to Title IX. Odds are some of the larger state universities probably have more funding available for the Women's team then most of the European teams do....and that is without TV contracts.

This game between France and Nigeria is the most boring game I've seen at this world cup. No shoots on target yet.

Blatant bias in favour of the home nation. Perhaps the women's game isn't far off men's after all.

Absolutely ricidulous to order a retake. Every single keeper has come off their line for pens.

No way that should be a retake.
I’d get it if the keeper had saved it, but being a foot off the line had no impact at all on it being missed.
Joke of a decision

Im genuinely hating VAR

Its the application of it - its just becoming fuckin anal about every single thing

So France missed the penalty because the keeper werent on her line... fine... but then they score the retake but the KEEPER WAS STILL OFF HER LINE...

Agree, I would be beyond pissed if it were spurs.
Ref might as well have took the pen

Lmao relay shows the keeper was a few inches off the line.

I assume this means they'll be applying the same rule for every pen from now on. (like fuck they will.)

I'm watching Norway v Korea and I have no idea how we're leading this, we've been terrible. Scored two (clear) penalties but the keeper had a hand on both of them and should probably have saved the second.

And Caroline Graham Hansen was injured early in the second half, if it's as bad as it looked Norway will lose in the last 16. She is everything in their attack.

You have to step in order to get spring into a sideways movement. Are they allowed to stand a foot or two behind the line?

I've seen two retakes because the keeper hasn't stayed on the line. I think they only look at it if the player misses the penalty. If they score I guess it's advantage to the attacking team.

It seemed like that's what the keeper was trying on the retake but the ref ordered her to move forward onto the line.

So far they've been applying it this strictly during the events using the new laws.

One shot all game for Nigeria. I feel sorry for them for the penalty, but they don't really deserve anything from this game.
