Chadli and Carrasco as wing backs is a bit "Martinez" as well, will probably get away with it against Greece but could be exploited by a better side, with Martinez's inability to tactically coach defensively.

Going back to the Taylor/Coleman incident - I have been there and done that.
Went in for what was basically a 50/50 loose ball challenge and went in more committed than the other guy and got there half a second quicker. Momentum when kicking the ball took me into his leg, snapping it clean in two.
Not even a free-kick... The referee, who had reputation for being one of the best in our league, said there was nothing wrong with the tackle, just an unfortunate outcome.

To my knowledge, the guy made a full recovery and was playing again a year or so later.
Me... I never wanted to be on the receiving end of that kind of injury. I played about 5 more matches, haven't played in a competitive game of football since... 15 years!!!

Belgium are criminally mediocre.
Another underachieving 'golden generation'

Played against 10 men for 30' and only managed one goal. Albeit Greece which we all know plays terribly negative football.

Why didn't Hazard play btw?

The best defenders were rarely found sliding on their arse, King certainly rarely had to, Dawson on the other hand....

The trouble is as soon as you leave the ground shit like this can happen and is far far worse than slapping a player, putting your head on theirs or any of the other silly hand bags stuff that FIFA want to get their knickers in a twist about. It really is time the game dragged itself out of the dark ages. Good defending has very little to do with sitting on your arse.
Much of the time they aren't even tackles in the true sense - they're attempts to reach the ball first rather than attempts to dispossess. A good slide tackle is an art, nonetheless. Memories of Phil Beal spring to mind.

What the hell has happened to them? They used to churn out world class players and play some of the best football on the planet. Just strange.

Every country goes through these types of periods once in a while. Germany in the late 90s, early 00s as an example had a relative down period in talent with the likes of the brutal Carsten Jancker upfront and not terribly much behind. Then they changed grassroots/domestic league and produced the wonderful array of players they have now or have had in the very recent past.

I'd be worried about the Dutch league though. Seems reduced in quality and the top clubs not as strong as they used to be, relative to the rest of Europe. Doesn't seem like the famed youth development of Ajax and some of the other clubs, are producIng as much Dutch talent as they did. Doesn't seem like there is much money in the league and the top clubs don't have financial clout. Similar pattern to the Scottish league albeit at a higher level

So England and Denmark are done this break after today, right? Walker, Dier, Alli and Eriksen back for almost a full week of training before Burnley. Always good.

Having 3 games in 7 days right off a 2 qualifiers international break is abusrd, IMO. The schedulers really need to work on that.

Unless the season runs from July to June I'm not quite sure when you expect the club fixtures to be played.

GAWA fans must be loving it right now. Norway are absolute turd even with Lagerback (Iceland boss in the Euros) as new boss.

Get rid of international friendlies and have less breaks to play the qualifiers

Not enough time for the qualifiers then. Although international tournaments are 2 years apart, qualifying is only 13 months long (September on Yr 1 to October of Yr 2).
You'd have a qualifier every month, including the summer. That would cause even more disruption to domestic leagues especially when some have winter breaks.

England played a friendly and a qualifier in the last week, while some nations played 2 qualifiers. Other times we play 2 qualifiers in a week. Even if we hadn't played the friendly, the players would still have been with the national squads all week.

Their generation inspired by Cruyff's Ajax all retired. The Dutch league has lapsed, there's no one to find and train the next Gullit, Van Basten, Bergkamp, Seedorf... etc, etc.
