As a swedish person, I hope we draw Denmark in the play-offs.
Denmark > Switzerland > Italy > Croatia in that order.

International football is the worst standard that any top player plays at. I find it bizarre people feel that players need to have good World Cups to be one of the best ever

Yeah, people always need to throw this cavaet in when talking about Messi about doing it in the World Cup not realising that the standard of intl footy is average nowadays. The thing is nostalgia does funny things to people and people who saw him play will never be able to let go of the memories of Maradona. In 20 years time our generation won't be talking about Maradona and Pele rather Messi and Ronaldo because our generation is biased towards what we've witnessed.

well they are more interested in US revenue for MLS owners than national team performance. what respectable coach is going to take the job of national coach to promote MLS revenues over performance?
Same as Premier League in England

Australia almost found a way to fuck it up, glad the coach is walking, he didn't start Mooy last night, and he's our best player by miles.

Ange has seriously lost the plot... Something's not right, have a feeling he's lost the players. It's unfortunate because he was doing well, but he has himself to blame, being so idealistic and rigid with his tactics etc...

Twellman rubs some people the wrong way, but he's often on the mark with his analysis of the game in this country. This rant is spectacular, and it says a lot that he's willing to include himself as one of those involved with US Soccer who needs to take a long, hard look at themselves - having been an MLS player and US international and now part of the soccer media. And his comment about how the gloves should have come off years ago in regards to changes needed within the system is absolutely spot on.

In a really disturbing way, I'm fascinated by what will happen in both the USSF and in the soccer media over the next couple months.

We needed this. The warning signs were there. They were ignored.

Fabian Johnson, Danny Williams, Chandler, Lichaj, McKennie. Brooks is hurt. All of them should have been on this roster.
Couldn't stomach coming in this thread last night...I agree with you on your points about MLS and player selection. Oddly the one player I think that may have helped last night was Dom Dwyer, I'm still scratching my head at Arena's selections though (not just this round but the entire WCQ). There is just no way to justify that shitty roster...Beasley, Zusi, Wondo, etc. Then to make matters worse Arena spouts this shit after the game "Nothing has to change. To make any kind of crazy changes I think would be foolish. We're building a good system in our professional league. We have players playing abroad of some quality."
It's sickening and heads need to roll, but it's US Soccer so I'm sure we will just keep fucking things up the way we have been.

Arena should never have been allowed to leave T&T with any ounce of respect. He should have been fired before the US plane even left the airport tarmac. Gulati should immediately resign. The fact that he hasn’t yet has turned my stomach. If that turd somehow tries to weasel his way through this and win a reelection in February it will be disgusting. If he actually wins US soccer will be done for at least a generation. It will set us back decades.

Arena is just a shit version of big Sam. I wanted Klinsmann to stay but you could see the squad had already turned on him and it was a lost cause. Pity they're not going to Russia.:(

Not to hijack USA fans' meltdown, but who saw Ospina score Peru's equaliser on Monday?

https://t.co/ihNUlVRT3W

If you weren't already convinced that football is corrupt, Ospina's last two games would really get you thinking. Schoolboys wouldn't get caught out like this.

I hadn't seen the "Ospina goal" until just now, but it does take me back to one game in high school in which the other team had an indirect free kick about 25 yards out. They lined up to take a direct kick, and as the shot came at me, I just let it go between my legs rather than take a chance at fluffing it. My coach was going absolutely mental and yelling at me about why I would have let the ball go between my legs (mind you I was his captain for two years, as well!). When the ref blew the whistle for a goal kick to us, I shot a wry smile over towards him.Good guy, but not the greatest or most gifted-of-thought coach I've ever had.
