Birmingham City owners blaming previous managers Redknapp and Zola for their spending.

Which seems very odd to me as surely the chairman and board have control and responsibility for managing the budgets and simply just refuse to buy a player when they don’t feel they have enough?

Actually making themselves look even more incompetent blaming managers for spending the money, as they should have been monitoring it.

Their wages went up from something like £22m to £38m in the last year or two. They are bullshitting to the max. The chairman has to control that not a manager.

To be fair, as much as I share your thoughts, @Lilbaz & @DJS are spot on. Redknapp (or any other manager) can desire to spend as much as that want, but they don't sign the cheques our agree to the terms of any deal or transfer.

Money problems at any club or business are surely only down to the incompetence of the people in control of the purse strings?

Yep, idiot chairmen believing a 'real football man's' bullshit about how he can turn their clubs into powerhouses. Redknapp will extract every resource he can by saying whatever he needs to. If these idiots running the clubs are stupid enough to believe it, then this is the situation you end up in.

AS Nancy Lorraine in France have been relegated to the 3rd division for financial reasons. They went from Ligue 1 to 2 on the last day of the season and now down again.

Those financial reasons include Sevilla not paying the 3.7m Euros owed to Nancy in sell-on fees when Clement Lenglet moved to Barcelona. He left Nancy for Sevilla in Jan 2017.

here's an article from the time: https://www.espn.com/soccer/soccer-...-fee-after-clement-lenglet-moves-to-barcelona

Same thing happened when Lens sold Seydou Keita to Sevilla and they sold him to Barcelona. It's because Sevilla doesn't consider it a transfer. The player bought out his contract and moved. Screws two French clubs out of their sell-on clause and Nancy has now been relegated.

It will mean french clubs don't sell to spain unless the money is upfront.

Sad for nancy. Sure they will probably try and sue.

If it's true that a similar case has already gone all the way to CAS and lost then it seems pointless. They either weren't aware of that precedent, which is pretty inexcusable, or they knew and decided to take the risk anyway.
