“I’ve got to find a team amongst that group that are going to have the nerve, the willpower and the desire to get that fourth spot. We’ve got to go to QPR next week and show we can bounce back from today - it’s a test of character now.”

Harry absolves himself once again.

He's not wrong though is he? Despite all of his mistakes, failures, fuckups or whatever you want to label them as there is little point in him stewing on them. We have 5 games left and we need to win them anything else and we are in the shit. So his statement is absolutely true. If we had anyone to replace Adebayor I'd drop him. Modric, we should drop. Anyone else who is going to get flakey or hide from responsibility shouldn't be in the team either. Gallas sould be given a the responsibility to bollock the defence. Parker should be screaming at everyone in midfield who isn't closing or tracking the player. VDV should take the attackers by the scruff of the neck and tell them to follow his lead.

You would drop Adebayor? As much as he frustrates me, he looked ok against Chelsea, he held the ball up ok in the first half and got into some good positions, it was the service to him that was the problem and when he drifted left, Bale stuck left too instead of drifting into the middle giving a target in the box. *Just realised you said if we had anyone to replace him* >_<

Agree about dropping Modric and that VdV, Parker and Gallas need to take charge of their respective areas on the field.

Obviously I wouldn't drop Adebayor for Saha or Defoe. I'm not mental. I've said in another thread that we need to play it into Ade's feet and then get plenty of pace and movement off him. Honestly though if we had any sort of competition for him then I would give Ade a break. We need a spark up front, someone who can hit the net as well as just holding it up and someone who is going to press full on rather than intermitently. If Adebayor is our lone striker he has to take some responsibility for the lack of goals.

Yeah we put all our eggs into one basket with Adebayor, after selling Crouch and Keane we needed to bring in two strikers ideally, perhaps not two world class strikers, a younger prospect and Adebayor would've been nice but nope we just got Ade on loan and then of course Pav was not happy and was obviously going to be sold leaving us with a player who doesn't work in the system we want to play and the on loan Defoe, January rolls around and yet again we fail to sign a striker, oh we got Saha for 6 months but yeah doesn't exactly fill you with confidence.

We have needed a striker in two windows and failed. Saha is nothing more than a bench warmer at best, Defoe should be sold and Adebayor is only a loan deal.

Out wide we have errr Lennon and Bale, I believe we let the only "three" wide players we had in the squad go out on loan in January? Townsend, Pienaar and Falque?

Looking at it that way, it's really hard to make excuses for the management. How the fuck can you look at a team sheet which has only 5 (pretty sure even Falque isnt a proper winger) wingers in it AND LOAN THREE OUT?

WTF?

Or use all our defenders in a wigan style 5-4-1. Boom success.

You laugh.... I was thinking exactly that. Walker and Bale as wing backs. Gallas - King - Nelson clogging up the box.

In all honesty if we had a fit Kaboul and hadn't loaned out Bassong it's exactly what I'd do. Except it would end up being more your traditional 3-5-2. One of King Gallas or Nelson in the middle with Kaboul on the right and Bassong on the left. Anyway.... it's time to roll the dice on something or other.

Not sure clogging up the box is going to help a great deal. We'd end up inviting a lot of pressure on our defence and even with 3 central defenders if any one of them gets exposed 1 on 1 we are still going to get found out. I still think we'd be better served putting a brick wall in front of the defence and then having the central defenders as last line stoppers. Which means I'd play Nelsen ahead of King because King seems to what to stick to his natural defensive instincts rather than keeping a tight line and he can't do it adequately anymore.

So I'd go:

Friedel
Walker-----Gallas-----Nelsen-----BAE
Sandro----Parker
Lennon-----VDV-----Bale
Adebayor

In this poor run of ours Nelsen has been very steady...we could have done with him in the defence yesterday for either Gallas or King, the latter being there because of Harry's sentimental/loyal side ...the writing has been on the wall but we refused to read it. It may be a minority opinion but our variations of 4 5 1 have largely been our undoing imo. Sure we keep possession on the half way line....loads of it but from what I've seen it doesn't make us particulary effective or penetrative. In the last few games VDV and Modric have played on top of each other. Looking forward to generally only having Ade up front has been very limiting...he is not a goal-scorer in any special sense. Many on here are happy with the way we have been lining up...I am not....the negative stuff we have been playing is not what I want from a Tottenham side. VDV has loads of heart but is basically a Rolls Royce powered by a mini engine......yet people are still surprised when he gets the hook. Failure to go for it in the past month as largely been our undoing we have not been brave enough. The sides we have left have generally got something to play for...however a Tottenham 2012 side should be able to take on and beat them all playing open football. If we can't then we don't deserve to make the top 4.
............Freidel
Walker Nelsen Gallas BAE
Lennon Parker Modric Bale
..........Defoe Ade

Corluka would have come in handy for sure. Hopefully we learn the mistake of loaning out half your team for next season. Still glad we sold glad we sold Pav though.

We have to play Parker and Sandro. Our back 4 isn't strong enough at the moment and we need to do everything we can to protect them. Otherwise we'll have another Arsenal or Chelsea result where we ship 4 or 5.

I'd give Modric a 'rest' for one game. He hasn't been influential for a while, and if nothing else we need to shake things up and see how we would play without him. Kaboul or even Nelsen in for King, who has finally succumbed to his injuries I fear.

Friedel
Walker Kaboul/Nelsen Gallas BAE
Lennon Sandro Parker Bale
VDV
Adebayor

Redknapp has his faults and makes mistakes like every other manager, but some of our players need to take a long hard look at themselves, in particluar I`m taking about Mr Modric...

He's looking at himself all the way to the bank for a different team.

Before January transfer window and after. Two different players.

It is bad enough that King is playing on one knee, but Modric is playing with one eye for another team.

Personally I think someone needs to kidnap Defoe for the remainder of the season, keep him out of Harry's line of sight. It seems to be the case that HR can't stop himself compramising the team and the formation in an attempt to play Defoe in a 4-4-2.

No, do not bring in Saha. I am not convinced he can play the lone striker position well, heck the other day against Norwich it was about 5 minutes in he had the chance to stick a cross in to Defoe who was racing into the box instead he tried going alone and only getting a corner, pissed me off. Adebayor even when he isn't scoring does look a threat and creates for others, he has been ok recently, I have been impressed because he went through a bad patch around January but come back strong with his Newcastle performance and more recently Swansea performance. He is not the problem, the problem is the shakey defence and the lack of creativity coming from midfield.

Unfortunately we have no defenders to bring in so we can't drop anyone, whereas midfield we have Sandro and Livermore, perhaps not the most creative but they could come in and tighten up allowing the likes of VdV, Bale and Lennon to be more attacking and creative.

What about Walker/ Assou?

Rose and Livermore possibly to show the others they arent playing whatever they do?

I don't see what you mean by this. Out of the 4 defensive outfield players, Ekotto and Walker have been by far the better two.

It's our CB's that are playing the worst right now IMO.

Spot on .

Modric has been going through the motions for months . WHen he is motivated he's absolutely obsessed with winning .

There is no way of turning Modric around now his head has been turned and that is not Harry's fault .
