Velislav Voutsov, head coach of second-division football club Kaliakra Kavarna, said that he wanted a personal encounter with the referees after his team lost its Bulgarian Cup semifinal against Cherno More Varna 1-3 on April 16 2008.
“What they did to our team is a war crime committed in time of peace. If only I had the power, I would have gone to the dressing room and would have beaten them up,” Voutsov told reporters after the game, as quoted by sportni.bg.
Indeed, according to sportni.bg, referee Angel Bekiarov and his two assistants were not very convincing in their decisions and left spectators dismayed in most the cases.
“They cancelled a 100-per cent goal that we scored, then there was a clear offside situation when Cherno More scored its second goal and the red card our player got was a joke,” Voutsov said.
“I had my team ready to play against more than 11 players, but when their number reaches 14, then it is too much,” Voutsov said, alluding to the three-man refereeing team. Voutsov is notorious in Bulgaria football more for his comments, rather than his success as football coach.
Cherno More will meet Litex Lovech in the Bulgarian Cup final on May 14. Litex came from behind, scoring three goals in the last 12 minutes of the match to win 4-2.
