It was probably a few years ago, or the person was ridiculously in debt, because it was only £50K, which for most players in the premiership is at most, a months wages, and to fix a game for a months wages is pretty stupid.

It was "within the last 2 seasons" and the player "has played for a premiership club" which would suggest it was someone who used to play occasionally for a premiership club, and has now dropped down the divisions...

I usually HATE those cryptic ITK things but seeing as saying the name would probably get me banned and the site shut down, I'll simply say: The FA Cup is a caged animal.

I don't understand why the concern about libel. It seems to me that English papers to make up their new stories all the time so who cares about a fan forum?

Just curious.

It shouldn't be that hard to figure out who it is based on the following;
One red card & three yellow cards in the same game
Happened over last 2 seasons
Player no longer in the division (relegated/retired or sold)

Gather a list of who received red cards and go from there.

On a sidenote you'd have to wonder if the team-mates who received the yellow cards are still with the club if the incident is known within the game.

Doesn't say that the red card and the three yellows happened in the same game, just says he arranged for three teammates to get bookings - it's more likely that them three were in a completely different tie to the one he got himself dismissed in.

Equally, saying it happened "over the last two seasons" means basically it happened 2 seasons ago - if it was last year, they'd have said last year.

The red cards thing for the season in question is a fair few names though - go look at the stats, it's not easy to pick a name out of that lot

The Independent article (2nd paragraph) says
"The bookmaker said he would write off the debt if the player got himself sent off and also persuaded three team-mates to get booked in a specific game."

So we're back to one game with one red and three yellows which happened two years ago to a player no longer with a premier league club. It shouldn't be that hard to figure out.

Of course, there may have been other legit bookings alongside the fixed ones in the same game. Then you're just looking for a game with a red & lots of bookings in it.

Got to be an Arsenal game! ;-)

depends which way you read it - i'd read that as he got his red card but, as a seperate incident, he also got three team mates to get booked in a specific match, aside from his booking, but it too unspecific - could be read either way i guess...

Doesn't matter really - Dawons got 2 reds that year and there was more than one game we got three or more yellows in, maybe even the same game, so lets not delve too deep

You'd think if the red carded player being sent off would help influence a game then a goalkeeper or the clubs best defender would be a good place to start in finding the culprit.

I'm sure getting a complete list of red cards for two years ago (with yellow cards in the same game) for a player no longer in the premier league would point us to few options of who did it.

Looking through a database not many names fit the following criteria.

Red carded
lost the game
three other yellow cards in same game
not played in the PL this season

I found two names looking though the db who were Henchoz & Traore. I'm not saying it's either of them as their allieds would have to have been on the opposing team. I didn't see any others that the yellows were on the same team.
