Albert Tomkin was born today in 1915. The outside-left was born in Barrow-in-Furness and came to Tottenham in 1937 from Formby.
He had a spell with Northfleet, our nursery club, and returned to the Lane for the 1938-39 season when he played in two games for us.
Former striker Terry Gibson is 47 today. Born in Walthamstow, he went to Highams Park School. He joined Tottenham in 1979 and made his debut shortly after his 17th birthday. He played in 18 games for us, with a loan period at GAIS in Sweden, before transferfing to Coventry City in 1983, where he scored 52 goals in 100 games, a feat which Manchester Utd noticed and they lured him away for the 1986-87 season.
He moved on to Wimbledon the following season and had a brief spell with Peterborough in 1993 and ended his playing career with Barnet in the 1994-95 season, followed by spells of coaching the club's youth players and as assistant manager.
He was also coach of the Northern Ireland team, assisting his former Wimbledon teammate Lawrie Sanchez to victories over England, Spain and Sweden amongst others. Prior to this he had been assistant manager at Wycombe Wanderers, also working alongside Sanchez where together they guided the Wanderers to an FA Cup semi-final in 2001 where they were narrowly defeated 2-1 by Liverpool. During his time at Wycombe, Gibson was responsible for bringing the Comanche club mascot to the club.
He became a coach at Fulham in April 2007 but left the club after the departure of Sanchez in December 2007 and now works as a co-commentator on SKY covering Spanish football. Terry gained extensive experience of Spanish football whilst working as a scout for Bolton and Man City, a role he combined with coaching Northern Ireland when he was based in Southern Spain.
He had heart bypass surgery earlier this year.
Johnny Brooks is 78 today. A creative, skilful inside-forward (I remember seeing him play), he was born in Reading and first played for his local club from 1949 to 1952, when he transferred to Tottenham and played in 166 games, scoring 46 goals, over the following six seasons. Johnny was capped three times for England.
He then moved on to Chelsea for a season followed by spells with Brentford and Crystal Palace until 1964 and he also had a brief spell in the USA in 1968. Now retired, he lived in Boscombe, near Bournemouth.
In the 1956 team photo, he is second from left in the bottom row.
Our promising young goalie Oscar Jansson, now in Sweden's Under-21 squad, is 19 today and recently returned from a three month loan spell with Exeter.
He joined our Academy in 2007, had ten games with our Under-18 team and quickly progressed into the reserves. He was named Goalie of the Tournament in the Dusseldorf Under-19 Tournament in March 2008 after which he began training with our first team squad and he was on the bench for our UEFA Cup game against Shakhtar Donetsk.
He had a spell with Northfleet, our nursery club, and returned to the Lane for the 1938-39 season when he played in two games for us.
