After yesterday's debacle we now need to concentrate on the three cups we are still in. To win one is the only way to qualify for europe next season. I suggest even resting players for some premier league games.
Surely we will get away from anywhere near the botoom with the squad we've got. Everything should revolve around making sure we have the best possible chance in the cups from now on.

The closest we got in recent years was the FA QF against Chelski last season. In our current state we won't survive an encounter with any of the Top 4 sides again in the domestic cups, so it's pretty much a chimera. That leaves the UEFA Cup, hopefully we'll get a decent run, if only to have more games for Ramos to work things out further on his tactics and selection.

Yeah, forget about the Premier League. Let's just make sure we try and win all the cups that we would try and win anyway, but get relegated in the process.

...I understand what you mean, but we just can't forget the Prem. After all, it is extremely vital to stay in the Prem. And like yesterday, we managed to lose for the team like Birmingham after, almost totally, dominating the whole 90 minutes. That is why we need, IMO, to concentrate to Prem games 100 % with the best team available until we are safe.

I agree with you SEANSPURS

I said weeks ago that we will not qualify for Europe through the league I wasn't being negative it was just obvious so our priority has to be the cups, if we don't prioritise the cups we still won't achieve anything in the league so it's a no brainer really, mid table safety will have to suffice for his year.

And the Arse in the semi-final of the Carling Cup last season don't forget that one.

Unfortunately everything (in the short term anyway) depends on us staying in the Prem - so forgetting about it isn't possible. I understand the original post states we will pull away from the bottom, but I'm not convinced till we've done that.

Shut up about the relegation talk! It will NEVER happen! Not because were so fucking good at the moment but because the other teams down there are so incredibly bad!! example: Derby, sunderland, bham, wigan,

I didn't forget it (more's the pity), but we were THIS close in our Chelski match. I've blocked out the Carling match, pretty much most of the time.

This may be a bit far fetched, but i'd be happy knowing we aren't going to get relegated this season.

They are bad teams..hang on a minute, we've already lost to two of them.

I don't think we will get relegated but if we (and the players) start to believe that we are too good to go down then our chances of being relegated will increase. West Ham had Defoe, Carrick, Joe Cole, Di Canio, David James, etc., when they were relegated and they believe they were too good to go down.

ERrr ... does a win in any of the cups give us Europe next season? Not at all sure about UEFA cup - presumably, as for Champs League winning it does NOT get you back into Europe. Mind you, I'd still be more than happy if we did. (Yes, beating Bayern Munich on our current form looks really likely.)

There are a few of us on here who have tasted relegation, and i would suggest that those who think it is impossible for it to happen to us again, should think again!
And it was not as easy to return to the top flight (Tho' we did) as we thought/expected at the time.....

yep, I remember it well. And notice how we let in more goals than all our main rivals even at that level. God we've had some shite CBs over the years - John Lacy anyone? Gary Mcallister? even 'Max' Miller who many seemed to rate was prone to regular Kaboul-esque schoolboy errors.

Remember that 9-0 win against Bristol Rovers? Colin Lee bagged four on his debut and Moores for his hattrick. I was playing rugby for Winsdor Grammar against Eton that day and came off the park to learn from my Bristol Rovers supporting teacher that we had strolled it.

Crap away days to Leyton Orient and Bristol City and sheer relief on the last day to get that third spot on goal difference - further embellished close season by the legendary signing of Ardiles and Villa by Burkenshaw.

Yes, I was going to mention that 9-0 as contributing heavily to our goals For column, which was quite impressive - as it looks like being this season. I was young enough and naive enough to think we were going to win the league immediately when Ossie and Ricky signed. I've wised up (slightly) since then.
