Bloody hell. Bothered to read the article and Fredericks is leading the poll! He must be impressing.

Anyhow, not sure how good the North East is at judging our full backs...

The smoggies love Fredericks, they are raving about him on teesside; with dier and naughton failing to impress it seems odd we aren't looking to fredericks to solve our issues.

Read the full article at teesside gazette

Actually Naughton has been fairly impressive recently. And if we are looking for Fredericks to "solve our issues" after Dier has only been with us for a few months, then god help Fredericks if he ever played and f**ked up: he'd be killed.

What is it with Spurs fans and their constant disregarding of players as soon as they have a poor patch?

A boro season ticket holder I know said that compared to naughton who was also previously on loan there, Fredericks is in a different league.

You're right, he is. Naughton is in the Premier League; Fredericks in the Championship :) (Sorry couldn't resist).

I'm not saying Fredericks isn't going to be a good player and its brilliant to see him doing so well - it's just Spurs fans seem quick to write off players when they hit a bit of a rough patch and suddenly want him replaced with 'the next best thing' :)

Dier is a centre back, doing a RB job while regular RBs are out of action.

Yes

He gets caught out positionally from time to time (as does Rose to be fair and in no small part down to our lack of leader at the back marshalling the line) but he is gaining valuable experience in the PL and in my opinion doing a very good job all things considered

I think the boy will be a star at centre back once his time comes and he settles there

The score line still flatters the Scots - they've been outclassed pretty much from start to finish and England have barely got out of second gear

If I was in charge I would give these youngsters a chance before importing from abroad. Yedlin may be an good addition but I would think it would have been better for Frederick's to play under study to Walker and Naughton.

I think in a couple of years, players like Mason, Kane, McEvoy, Pritchard, Townsend, Winks, Edwards and Fredericks could be the mainstay of our squad.

They just need the trust of the manager and the confidence in themselves and I believe we would be in better shape for it.

Too many clubs are too hasty in disregarding the youth set up, the solution is normally a lot closer to home than people think.

I've been to the Riverside to see him play this season (he was MOTM against Watford) and the Championship is very much his level.

His performances and ability are nowhere near the level required to play in our first team - not even with our current problems.

If we can get a fee for him we have had a blinder.

They seem to thrive in a different set-up.

It would make a huge difference if our players didn't have to play out of position, although I realise when there are injuries there will be a need for cover and that may have to happen.

If a player is to give his best and play to his true strength, he should be comfortable with his job on the pitch.

I would rather see him playing a RW role TBH

I still think he has the potential, physically and technically he has a lot of positives, it's just his decision making and tactical awareness that lets him down. I would be patient with him, and give him another season and see if the penny drops.

If not, then sell him.

For Poch's system to work he needs good attack minded full backs. Unfortunately Naughton lacks real pace and attacking intent so isn't the ideal replacement for Walker. Fredericks on the other hand is very much a like for like. He is very good going forward but also very tenacious in the tackle. We could probably get 5m for Naughton so I would cash in now and let Walker, Fredericks and Yedlin fight it out for the right back slot.

Yedlin is far better than Naughton and will over the next couple of seasons be in front of Walker.

It's been an outstanding season for him and i think Poch wants defenders to defend first and then support the attack. In Yedlin he has this, and also a better all round defender with more pace.

I have no doubt the player has potential but you have to take into account the standard he's playing.

I think right now bar a bit of stardust the MLS is between Championship and League 1 standard.

Simon Dawkins looked a player in the MLS and he's shone for Derby in the Championship which indicates what level he's at and possibly Yedlin.

On-loan Spurs starlet Ryan Fredericks has been an absolute revelation.

He is super-fit and has the speed and stamina to play the demanding role of the modern attacking full-back to a tee.

He zips down the flank and can skin a man to deliver a cross that can offer an angle to hurt.

But he isn’t just a speed machine: he is perceptive and technically gifted and can play a deft defence splitting one-two or spot a run in the middle and slot a pass into feet.

And he’s not scared to weave inside and through a tackle to link up smoothly with the attack.

Obviously, a full-back’s first job is to defend - and he does that too.

He is fast so can down close even the quickest winger, he is intelligent and spots a dangerous run before it starts and is quick to plug gaps in the back-line as they emerge.

And he loves a tackle. He’s brave and tenacious and has a little bit of spite about him but his timing is superb so even the heaviest of hit is relatively clean. He wins the ball and lets his rattled opponent know he is there.

Yes, he is picking up his share of cars but that is a small price to pay for fixing what had been a fatal flaw in a key area.

I’d sign him today. Box-ticking right-backs are hard to find. I’m amazed he isn’t playing for Spurs.

We need to snap him up before they realise he’s better than they’ve got.

@spurs9 ;)
