The whole question hinges on whether we are going to play with 2 or 3 CBs. I prefer 3 CBs with much more offensively minded WBs. In that case KWP and Sessegnon would fit very nicely. Our FBs have come under the spotlight a lot since Toby got injured and we reverted to 2 CBs. On the other hand, 3CBs doesn't suit Davies because he's not a WB type. Aurier needs a full season to bed in but also needs to work hard on his decision making and a few technical issues. Trippier seems to have lost the ability to put a killer ball into the penalty area which is what compensated for his other flaws. No idea where Rose stands.

Wouldn't cry to see either Trips or Davies upgraded.

The gulf in class and pace between Walker and Rose last season, and Trippier and Davies this season, is clear for all to see.

dunno but if one wants a top quality wingback we already had the best in the prem.

Still do. Rose has been a better FB than Walker for years now.

The tough thing is if you look at the rest of the league's full backs, I wouldn't really want to spend any money on them. There isn;t many clear upgrades on what we already have.

We should be bold and scrap the full backs, and play 4 centre backs and 5 attacking midfielders :D

I think we were a much more scary outfit with those powerhouses Walker and Rose, when we came at teams from all angles. With Trippier and Davies, we are essentially solid, but a little predictable and I have my doubts about Trippier when up against a top class winger with pace, although his delivery from advanced positions is very good.
Not sure why we bought Aurier and would have promoted KWP myself as Trippier's understudy.
Don't want Bertrand and would prefer Tierney from Celtic who has not looked out of his depth in CL games.

seriously? Rose struggles to get a game and Walker is a nailed on starter for the best team in the league and on the PFA team of the year. Rose was good for 2 years before he got injured. Walker has been good since he broke into the squad and was young player of the year.

Rose has been ruined by his latest injury, but he was definitely the better play for at least the last two seasons before he was injured.

KWP should've had 15-20 games this year. I can't imagine he won't force his way out on loan this summer, would be unreasonable to expect him to risk another year on the shelf. Really poor squad management on the whole.

I agree, KWP should've gotten more matches than he has and I couldn't blame him either if he wants to go out on loan. Hopefully KWP gets a start on Sunday. I can't see Trippier playing after that knee injury and if Aurier isn't 100% there is no point in having him out there.

I think KWP will have a real opportunity to impress Poch on the preseason tour. He should get plenty of game time (especially depending on how deep of a run England make in the WC) and if he performs well (and Aurier is still inconsistent at best) then KWP deserves more games next season.

Walkers recovery power is underrated and was a big part in allowing us to play such a high line. You can pretend we didn't miss him but we did.

For me if we want to return to a back three and wing-backs Davies would be a better fit as Vertonghen's understudy at LCB than on the flank.

In interesting view point from Jenas on R5 live about us and our full backs between this year and last, and I think he's right. It is very short.

I like Trippier and Davies, they are very creative, but they lack the pace and against pacy wide men they are vulnerable. If a player wants to go then we can't really stop them. Ideally we would find replacements that are fast, but they don't exactly grow on trees so we have to come up with another solution if we can't.

Both very good squad players and against 80% of PL opposition

Neither good enough against the very elite teams or Wide attacking players

Problem is in general there is a lack of elite players in this position currently in world football

Hence the premium paid by City for a player that wouldn’t have been considered elite in past generations to address an area they were extremely weak in

To be honest this should be our mindset with regards to the entire squad, thats how we progress.

Irrespective of who the player is... if we can upgrade, we should.

The difficulty comes, with the better you are, the harder it is to attract that next level player without spending big.

This is actually my soap box subject regarding Spurs at the moment (along with our other transfer priority should be replacing Dembele).

Davies has been poor for the past month or so, not sure if it is due to less rotation and he is tired. Trippier is simply not good enough for a team in the top 6 let alone one that has title aspirations. He lacks pace, and if you watch him closely when under pressure he always plays backwards to the centre back or Hugo intensifying the pressure. A sign of a top draw player is he plays forwards when under pressure.

There has been ITK and comments that Rose is surplus to requirements as Spurs do not believe he can reach the fitness levels they expect from a full back. So in summary We definitely need two new full backs. Rose goes, one of Trippier / Aurier goes and two new no.1's to come in. We are not as good a team as we were last year and one of the reasons is that we do not have the full backs to stretch and open up teams like we have for the past two years. Surely Poch see's this.

I am not saying we are in the dark Edinburgh / Austin days, but we need to improve here!
