How's the head this morning?

My mother, father and grandparents are all Sligo but I was born in Roscommon so wear those colours. For some unknown reason my brother was born/found in Galway. My sister was also born in Roscommon but backs Sligo while her son was born in Roscommon and shouts for Mayo. With the mother-in-law and my mother's partner from Mayo and my late father-in-law being Tipp we have plenty of counties covered. Now my head hurts.
I had a bad night's sleep, but it had nothing to do with booze (I only drink at weddings, basically). I watched the game with my father (a Clareman), then I took it easy for the rest of the evening.

I've been a part-time student at ITSligo the last couple of years, so I have discovered what a wonderful place it is. The scenery is jaw-dropping. In the last couple of weeks, I discovered Lough Gill and learned that 3 ships from the Spanish Armada were shipwrecked at Streedagh (I went there for a gawk).

I was ordering a kitchen from a Rossieman in Roscommon town lately and he told me he was born in Ballinasloe, which I found very strange. I can't remember if he said there was no hospital in Roscommon back then or what.

It sticks in my craw that Mayo have been such better than Galway for the last 15 years or so in the football. Just jealous. I like the place, I have friends from there, I chose to get married there, but like a lot of Galway people, I have that bitterness in me! I will reluctantly get behind them against the Dubs, but that's partly because I dislike Dublin. GAA players should be bogmen and bogmen only!

There's a Sligo Spurs club isn't there? You a member? I do love Sligo Town. Spent so many summers that way when I was a kid and a trip into town was one of the highlights, especially The Record Room on Gratton Street, used to have the coolest stuff. Then getting my pencil cases and shit from Penneys and Dunnes for the new school year. God I feel old. Haven't been into town for a few years now. Was really nice down by the river, a few good places to eat. And a trip to Stauntons for a jersey of some sort. I need to book some flights soon.

I'm not based up there, Dougal. It's long-distance learning, so I just take my exams there. My wife lived and studied up there for a couple of years, though. She loved it, and has often badgered me about climbing Ben Bulben. I think that could be a bit ambitious for me, but I am very keen to give Knocknarea a lash. And very keen to take a proper holiday up there.

There is a Sligo Spurs club, yes. Not a member, no. Somewhat incredibly, there is none in Galway (I am about 22km from the city).

Was Sligo the nearest big town to where you grew up?

Off topic ... My paternal grandfather was from Ennistymon, Co. Clare.

The family home was burned by Tans in 1920.

Grew up in Boyle, the family was originally from Castlebaldwin, on the N4 for Sligo.

Nothing against the Dubs but I hope the Mayo lads make a bit of history on Sunday, unlikely but you never know what might happen on the day.

Bugger it. Wanted Mayo to win but the Dubs pinched it at the death.

Great match though.

And if Donal Vaughan hadn't got himself sent off-I might have to hunt down the survivors from the curse ;)

That was so daft because he pulled the dig and didn't land a good whack, if your getting sent off at least let it be a proper whack.

I went back to the soccer after that and for the first few minutes I was wondering why the players weren't picking it up LOL

Probably the best chance Mayo had to win an All Ireland and still couldn't do it,heartbreak for their supporters.
