Redknapp impressed by former Arsenal defender.
Harry Redknapp admits he may name William Gallas captain if the defender makes his Tottenham Hotspur debut against West Brom.
Gallas joined Spurs last month following his departure from arch-rivals Arsenal and is in line to feature at The Hawthorns.
Fellow centre-half Michael Dawson is out after suffering a knee injury on England duty and Ledley King may not be risked with next week's UEFA Champions League trip to Werder Bremen in mind.
If King is rested for the game at West Brom, Gallas could mark his Spurs bow by leading out the team.
"I have been very impressed with him as a fella," said Redknapp. "He could easily become a mainstay.
"I am even considering making him captain on Saturday. Thinking about it."
Strong
Redknapp also reiterated his belief that Gallas is mentally strong enough to cope with any jeers that come his way following his time at Arsenal.
He added: "You have to be strong as a person to do that - it is easy not to have done that.
"He could have gone off and played somewhere else."
Regarding King, the Spurs boss believes it may be more beneficial to have his regular skipper in his side for Tuesday's opening Champions League group game away to Werder.
Redknapp said: "Both competitions are important to me, but we might just need Ledley's experience on Tuesday night in an away game in Germany in a Champions League game.
"If he plays Tuesday, he has got an extra day and I might get him for Tuesday and the following Saturday. It is a juggling act."
