I'd take 4 points from West Ham and Chelsea and we then have a pretty kind month of December where we should be aiming to win every game including United away.

just a matter of asking as I know he did add to this thread last season, with tables of how other teams where doing compared to last season, but has anyone seen @Spursidol posting of late?

We've been keeping pace with last season pretty well so far.

We may be 2pts below last season at the moment but on the plus side we're still ahead of 14/15 & 13/14

If we're not allowed to look at previous years points tallies as a indicator, according to the excuse merchants amongst our support, then why bother looking at previous years results as a comparison? They count for nothing as teams change as do their performances.

The only thing that matters is 1 PL win in 6, having played dross like Bournemouth/WBA/Leicester, is not good enough for a team that's supposed to challenge for PL/CL spots!!!

Yet we are still challenging for those spots....

Since ny's day, we have amassed 59 points from 32 games. That’s only 2 points behind the best tally over the same period. Appears a suitably sized sample to elicit the conclusion that we are actually quite good, and, for those complaining re: volume of draws, players, signings, no. of days beginning with "z", etc, that there is still scope for improvement.

The problem is/was - that last year was an anomaly. All the usual big teams had a bad season due to transition and alike. Normal service will be restored this season with the added fact that teams like Liverpool and Chelsea will fair much better now that they have settled managers who have already proven they are worth their salt.
It doesn't matter how you slice and dice it and how you look at or use statistics and figures, but the facts remain that both Liverpool and Chelsea will be up there at the end of the season, on top of that City will be there too and Arse there or thereabouts. That's not even adding Utd in the mix who I also believe will come good after the new year. So realistically, we can only expect 6th-7th this season based on how we have been playing so far. And so far mean a slow steady downward trajectory, not an upwards one. So unless players like Eriksen, Dele, Son, Kane and Lamela start scoring goals regularly and consistently we aren't going to break the top 4. That prediction is based purely on the fact that we need to at least equal or better our goal scoring exploits of last season and so far we aren't on course to do that.

with the remaining 6 fixtures that takes us up to halfway point of the season the results from last season matches against the same opponents would equal 36pts at the halfway stage. last season we beat Swansea at home, Lost away to Man Utd, beat Norwich (Hull), lost to Newcastle (Burnley) beat S'ton and Watford.

the Man U game is never going to be easy, though like I would of preferred to play Chelsea away when they wasn't hitting such form, at the moment Man U who have drawn a few recently have been a bit like us, drawing games they deserved to win. plus last season 1 of the only games that Chelsea showed any steel while Mourinho was in charge was against us, he knows how to blunt our strengths. the only thing that might be in our favour is we play CSKA at home on the Wednesday, and wouldn't be shocked if Poch doesn't go strong to secure a EL place. they need to travel Ukraine and get a point to secure a place in the EL, how strong will JM go knowing his team has 1 days less rest, and quite a long journey before facing us.

S'ton away will be a funny 1 should of been a boxing day fixture, which both teams will both have a nice 10 day between fixtures but they seem to be playing well this season, will need to play well there to come away with the 3pts, and will have to play well v Watford away on NYD though no one really knows what Watford will turn up, but it is a bit of a derby for them, and they did play well v us last season.

we need 11pts to match our points at the halfway stage last season, but need 14pts to match our points tally v the same ops as last season at the halfway stage. we are 2pts down on all the fixtures so far, so we need an extra win to be ahead, or 2 draws to match

I think this really shows that we are becoming very consistent as a team. We can beat anyone on our day, we are difficult to beat and we actually do usually win the games we are expected to e.g. newly promoted teams / bottom 5 or 6.

The difference this year in my view (other than our play is a bit slow and tedious) is that other teams have improved and/or not have shockers of season compared to last year.

If we can win our next 2 games we will be in the thick of it. Likely still 10 points off the top but well in the bunch for top four. Top four will be a successful league season to hopefully go with a cup win!
