I am starting to think that these minimum release clauses are a good idea.
It seems to me that they stop players complaining about offers beings rejected.
If you look at teams like Porto and Valencia they never say that the player is not for sale. They simple advise the purchasing club of the release clause and tell them that this is the price they have to meet. No negotiating. In fact they are not in the equation at all. The player therefore does not kick off because he doesn't feel like he is being held hostage - if the buying club value him that much they will meet the release clause.
SO...with this in mind, offer Bale a new contract and set the release clause at £100 million to expire 14 days before the end of each and every transfer window.
Everyone then knows where they stand.
