We could certainly do with his pace but could we match his fee and salary demands, i think we can.

Would be quite the statement on intent going into our new stadium

Spanish sports news purveyors Don Balon say Gareth Bale could make a surprise return to Tottenham, despite his current employers, Real Madrid, having previously rebuffed advances from Chelsea and Manchester United. With Isco and Marco Asensio proving more than capable of filling his Adidas Predator Precisions, the injury prone Welshman is fast becoming surplus to requirements at the Bernabéu and has even been subjected to jeers and whistles from the cheap seats during some of his appearances this season.

Bale, 28, was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford during the summer and speculation persists. Nevertheless, Don Balon report that he would rather move to Tottenham, the club that helped make him a star. In May 2015, at a time when Bale was being heavily criticised for poor performances towards the end of his second season in Spain, Mauricio Pochettino said Tottenham were “open to receive” him back at White Hart Lane if he was “not comfortable” at Real Madrid. “Tottenham will always have a place in my heart,” said Bale a year after his move to Spain. “I hope the fans still love me even though I’ve moved on. I love Spurs fans; you never know, I could come back one day.”

Elsewhere in Spain, Mundo Deportivo report that Barcelona sent scouts to keep tabs on Tottenham duo Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane during Tuesday night’s match between Real and Spurs. While the quality of both players can hardly be questioned, neither man was at his absolute best during an outstanding Tottenham Hotspur performance in which several other players stepped up and caught the eye. Those Harry Winks and Hugo Lloris to the Camp Nou rumours start here. Still only 18, Ajax central defender Matthijs de Ligt is another man wanted by the Catalan club, who have also approached representatives of the Liverpool winger Ben Woodburn.

Can't see us spending big next summer, I think we'll be more concerned with keeping the squad together. And the following year Bale will be 30 and probably only playing 5 games a season.

This needs to be put to bed.

Too expensive and injury prone. He would be a diminishing asset. Spurs need to look for the next Gareth Bale rather than spend our limited resources on the old one.

Won't ever happen but if it did, and he was fit, can you imagine a team of:

Lloris

Alderweireld Sanchez Vertonghen

Aurier Wanyama Winks Rose

Eriksen

Kane Bale

Can't see it happening but the truth is, even if it was possible, he is injury prone now, would we really want to be spending that much money on someone who could spend just as much time out injured as Dembele?

Also, you have to think, he has been in Spain for years now and still getting injured, coming back to the PL and the level of quality here and extra effort required, mixed in with the less than favourable weather for most of the year which just increases the chance of muscle injuries and the fact Poch likes his players to press, well, that is just asking for problems.

If we could have had the Bale we had before he moved to Madrid with this team then my god, we would walk the league I think, now though? I don't know, I am not saying he is shit, clearly not, he would improve us, the question is, for the money we would have to spend on him could we even afford it? Would he be worth it?

But would he press the way Poch likes?

I joke of course, I'd drive him to the iron gates of Bill Nick way myself.

That said, I fear the only way to get Bale would be to sacrifice Kane: that I would not want to do.

Without investment :sneaky:

On a serious note, a fully fit Bale would obviously be amazing in our team but he's only played half his games at Madrid. Injuries affect pace too, which is such a big part of his game. And also, on the whole, he's not been anywhere near the level he was in his last season at Spurs although that's mainly due to how he's been managed, the injuries and the Ronaldo factor, in my opinion. He won't care though with his CL and la liga trophies!
An injury free and in form Bale would be immense but probably too costly.

Dropping Dier and Alli?

Would love bale back at the new stadium but too costly and too injury prone.

Not convinced Dier would be in my starting XI all the time now with our current squad, but slightly irrelevant to the Bale discussion anyway.

As for Dele, whilst I think he's fantastic, he's not as good as Bale when he's fit.

But you're right that Bale would likely be too expensive and does now seem to get injured very regularly. For the money we'd have to spend on him, I suspect there would be better players available.

Or give all those loyal players currently performing at top level
a well deserved pay rise.

Anyway after Tuesday not good enough for Real Madrid
not good enough for Tottenham Hotspur.

Still carry a torch for him, but he has only been available for about 40% of Real's games since he moved there.

This rumour was as inevitable as the Kane to Madrid one.

It's probably worth mention that we had ITK a couple of months ago saying that the club would be interested if we could get him back before the start of next season.
