He is on £350k a week.

Absolute.

Non.

Starter.

Edit: The rumour I mean. Of course he would start for us if fit.

He will return to Spurs as a player. It is going to happen. I have no idea why fans go on and on about "his wages" and "his 700K a week". Like they know that it is inconceivable that he would return for a wage that the club could afford. Think about bonuses, rights and royalties, book projects etc. There are more ways for a seasoned footballer to make cash than by a weekly transfer of funds from their club.

I’d prefer Sessegnon as shows a lot of potential and reminds me of Bale at same age.

Don’t get me wrong Bale is quality but his injuries are very concerning and he is getting nearer 30 now.

Never gonna happen and don't even want him tbh
Any of the last 20 years of watching Spurs what you said would have me going whaaaaat, it's a testament to our growth that even if I disagree with you, I can actually see your point.

maybe he missed Gylfi going for £50m in the summer lol
*she ;)

But seriously. Bale is nearly 30, pace reliant, injury prone, unpopular at Madrid and doesn't get into their first XI. They don't particularly need him, he's on a big wage and his value is on the decline. Everton overpaid for Gylfi in a very different circumstance, I think there'd be a deal to be done with Madrid if the player was willing (which right now is no more than press speculation)

We have first refusal if he leaves and I'm sure Bale wouldn't be opposed to coming back at some point. Could we really afford to spend the money it would take to do this deal, without moving on one of our current stars? For me the cost would be too great for what is now a world class player but who is plagued with injuries.

Gylfi's 28 !
Oh dont get me wrong, I can see him leaving Madrid soon, but I dont think it'll be to us and I dont think it'll be for 30-40m.
Jose was gagging to get him in the summer, will probably go for him again if he were available, and will probably pay him whatever his agent demands.

I know this is probably unpopular but Im not sure he feels anything towards us as a club anyway, when he left he couldn't get away quicker if he tried, pretty much forced the move, and has said very little about us since he left...it would come as absolutely no surprise to me to see him playing for United or even Chelsea next season, doubt City would want him and I'm not sure any others could afford him.

With his injury record it sort of smacks a bit of Rooney returning to Everton though romantic for the fans but not very practical.. When you consider the actual needs of the squad going forward is it wise to have what would undoubtedly be your record transfer, and highest earner spending half his time on the treatment table?

Yanited can afford to have that sort of cash tied up in someone like Bale if it doesn't work out, not sure we can say the same.

Maybe a signing for the first season in the new stadium? Weve kept our powder dry financialy for years. If he was willing to take a cut while we upped the other wages? An ITK on here said we needed to have 0 net up to this summer to get the loans to build but that ends this season. Not sure if it would be good or not but who knows. Levy will want to make a statement next summer i think signing wise, whoever that may be

A very valid and also factual concern. My post was just responding to the 100s upon 100s of post just quoting his present salary as the reason for why he wouldn't return in the future. I think it's shortsighted bullshit from fans who think they understand something of importance. As far as financial stuff goes, Bale could return to Spurs. Now, whether it is a desirable transfer when looking at non-financial considerations, that's a very interesting question. And I'd be happy to chat more about that. (Ultimately, I believe tje injury concerns are worth the risk). However, posts that are merely "look at his salary in Spain, it would never happen" are too shallow and contentless to be taken seriously.

There is no way Dan Levy pays £80m for a 28 year old diminishing asset. Besides, forget the games, is there any way Bale could make it through one of Poch’s training sessions without getting hurt? Love him but his time here is over.

whilst sentimentally i'd agree, it's not in the best interests of the team going forward anymore.

we're a young group developing together and i'd much prefer the massive fee/wages to be better spent elsewhere on developing more youth talent.

i'd be more excited if we got sessegnon, sancho from dortmund (a la hercules) and made a huge play for pulisic at the same time.

I certainly don't expect this to happen but I also don't think Bale would command a fee that would be impossible for us. The likes of Mbappe and O. Dembele commanded obscene fees because they have their entire careers ahead of them, Neymar because he is the best player in the world not named Messi or Ronaldo at the peak of his powers.

Bale on the other hand is on the decline, a player nearing 30 whose game has been built around pace and who can't seem to stay fit. When you factor in that we would effectively be getting a discount by not having to pay the portion of the fee that would go toward our sell-on clause, it's within the realm of possibility that the fee might be manageable for us.

The major roadblocks would then be whether he was willing to take a massive cut to his wages, and whether Poch wanted to deal with a Rooney-at-Everton sort of situation which could disrupt our youth-focused approach. I can't see Bale being willing to accept a third of what he would earn at the likes of United or Chelsea, but Poch does at least seem open to the idea.

One factor that I haven't seen discussed is the potential commercial implications. With the new stadium up and running our matchday revenue plus TV revenue will be competitive with our rivals, but rest of the top six are still going to be miles ahead of us in commercial deals. Levy has shown that he is willing to take a gamble for the sake of commercial revenue by doubling the cost of building the new stadium in order to court the NFL. Bringing in Bale, who is still one of the most marketable players in the game, would be extremely valuable in this regard and could help us to close that gap.

All that being said I still don't think it will happen due to his wage demands and for footballing reasons, but I don't think the finances of the deal (outside of the wage structure issue) would be as out-of-reach as it might seem at first glance.
