Thing is, why did Levy include the first refusal clause if there was no chance of this happening? Levy is a very smart operator. He knows a superstar signing alongside the new stadium will put us on a next level.

I think Bale coming back is very likely but not until next summer unfortunately.

Much as in a fantasy world I'd love to see Bale in team as would truly cement us as top top quality, his wages are gonna be obscene (unless for some mad reason he takes a pay cut, which is highly unlikely) and he is a bit injury prone.

It could be that maybe we could help sort out his injuries but there was an article from a doctor that said one of his discs or something was aligned in a certain way that could lead to injuries...?

United can offer him up to £300K a week that's where the story ends. This is probably Bale's last big contract, he's not going to be conviced by add ons and performances based pay? Especially with his injury problems. It's simply not viable.

It's down to the player I suppose. I hope he has enough affinity with us to want to come back and build something. He'll still be on massive wages, just not as big as United can offer. He is already a multi millionaire.

Also, I believe Madrid pick up 50% of player image rights iirc. We wouldn't.

IIRC most of the speculation about the first refusal clause was predicated on the fact that if he flopped at Madrid, like British players had in the past, and was sold back to the UK at a cut price we wanted to have the first option too re-sign him.

What an inferiority complex some in this thread have. "Won't someone please think of what other fans think of us for talking about Bale" "Let's lock the thread"

Good god, how small time.

Fact is, he's available, we've had ITK saying we would be interested at some point, and we have first refusal.

Realistic or not, there's enough there to warrant discussion about it.

No they've paid it all off, I think about a year ago or maybe two. This deal is never happening and the thread should be locked

These sentences in posts always wind me up! Not just cos it's Bale, but with any player who there is just cause to have a thread about them. If you have no interest in the topic, surely YOU just don't come into it, rather than suggesting nobody else should have an opinion on the matter?

I don't think we have more than the tiniest of chances of signing Bale, but I'll respect others who have the belief and want to discuss it whilst there is evidence that he may be on the move.

Not having a dig at you personally and apologies for it coming across that way (yours just happened to be the 1st example I saw), but all posters who do this on various threads.

I'd love to buy into this...I actually think we could afford the initial transfer. BUT, how many other players would go knocking on the chairman's door demanding a huge wage hike if we put the likes of Bale (or any megastar) on a hefty salary?

Does that alter the team dynamic, and disrupt a happy camp?

As incredible a player as he is, is it therefore worth it?

I'm ambitious for the club and would love this to happen.
However, looking at the way the club conducts its transfer business and has done for the past decade, I would say that this is simply not going to happen and we are totally deluding ourselves in even entertaining the possibility.

My view is exactly the opposite. There is no way to predict what Levy would be willing to do based on past transfers. Signing Bale is a whole different ball game, and we have no history to base assumptions on. Maybe Levy could surprise us all for a world super star willing to come, maybe not.

He's probably worth more now than when we sold him, we have no chance.
I'd guess if UTD wanted him they would have to break their transfer record to sign him. At least 120 mil in my onion.

Told not coming back, not going to Yanited.

From a good source.

Strange as IIRC Bale doesn't speak Welsh himself, although I might have that wrong.

Trix there are many non Welsh speaking Welsh parents sending their kids to Welsh speaking schools. Bale not speaking Welsh himself will have no bearing on any decision re his kids speaking it.

The facts at the minute are Bale wants to stay at Madrid, until that changes we really shouldn't get carried away.

I don't think it's small time to say, United, possibly the biggest club in the world. Who aren't reliant on a sugar daddy have much more finicial pull and can offer him terms that, at the minute, we simply can't no matter how Levy tries to cut the books.

So it leaves us with 2 big ifs, if he is for sale and if he has us in his heart for a move back to us.

Well, he did sanction £30m for Sissoko. I guess it depends which narcotic is the choice for our shiney headed one this summer silly season.

It's time for a Levy special.

Danny boy has been penny pinching for a reason.

With 90k seats to fill every other week this season make more sense than next if anything. The extra ticket revenue plus shirt sales etc would pay his wages. The main problem is what it does for squad harmony and wage demands of others. our biggest weapon is team spirit so why risk upsetting that.

I am the optimistic one usually, but in this occasion there is no way we are going to break our wage structure 3 times over to pay for Bale. He already earns more than Alli, Eriksen and Kane combined. I could see it unsettling the team if we were to give him those sort of wages. As much as I love Bale I just can't see this happening and there is no way he will take a pay cut because football is only a short career.

This whole thread is a bi polar pile of shit. It should be closed and locked. Bale isn't ever coming back here, unless he's 35 and on his last legs, looking for a final big payday, à la Rooney at Everton. I'm personally going to throw up if I ever see him put on a United kit. I hope he stays at Madrid. Half the people in this thread are pining for him like some long lost girlfriend they just can't get over. It's pathetic. Fuck that gimpy Welsh bastard. Forget about him.

its ok mate, he hurt us too.

Bale isn't going to leave Madrid any time soon.

This has only become a story now because Mourinho is doing some shit stirring. I bet he's still there for a few seasons yet.
