Just watched Bale play for Madrid losing to a last minute goal to Espanol. He was awful. Really awful. He got subbed off and Sergio Ramos took his place up front for the last 10 mins or so :D

He’s lost it there. If he ever came back to the PL I’m sure he’ll find his feet again but he’s been average to poor for the last 2 years there and has never ever hit the heights of the AVB season even in his first 2 seasons there. I know he’s won everything and that’s what will matter to him but it’s sad to see him perform so averagely week in week out there. He should be the best in the world right now. He’s so far from that it’s laughable. Come back Gareth, Poch will sort you out.
That must have been a fun game to commentate on, Espanol had two Sanchez's and two Lopez's in their starting 11, plus another Lopez on the bench.

Even in his 'prime' there, he was still far from the player he could and should have been. His aura was so different with us, not only did he just know he was the man, it really reflected in his play and that's one of the things that contributed to his game being elevated to a new level. He was literally our own Ronaldo. The whole play for Ronaldo business at Madrid can be toxic for some players IMO and it's hampered Bale ever since he arrived there.

Away from the pitch he certainly seems to have lost his place as a global superstar too. As a brand he's not nearly as big as we all assumed he would become.

Satelliting around an ego the size of a small planet probably hasn't done his own much good. Lad needs to come home and win the League. Poch will fix 'im.

Can you imagine Bale and Kane?
Would be the best pairing ever, I’d love to see them together.
(Did they ever play together...?(n), I’m veering towards not)

Yep, twice. Between the 63rd and 72nd minutes of our 2-1 home defeat to PAOK Thessaloniki in the 2011-12 Europa League, and for the final five minutes of our 2-1 away defeat to Newcastle on the opening day of the Premier League in 2012-13.

Pretty sucky partnership really, not worth trying again.

If Toby signs a contract, one of our right backs steps up and we sign Bale we could be a force, but with Bale it's not going to happen. Going from 350k a week wages to 100k? But seeing our forward players of Eriksen, Lamela, Alli, Son, Moura, Bale & Kane would be fun

I don’t want him back.

He thought he was too good for us. Now I think we are too good for him. He could have stayed if he wanted to. He didn’t. Fuck him.

Kinda agree.

Like an ex really. You think you might be able to rekindle something good, but really, you just need to tell them to fuck off.

Had your chance, muffed it, sweetheart.

(If it was AVB level Bale, then yes, fucking sign the fucker.)

If it was AVB level Bale, why would Madrid be looking to offload?

He was too good for us at that time. Truth hurts.

This. Appreciate there's a lot of petty politics and egos at Real but a top player is still a top player, you don't offload if they're at the peak of their powers, especially when they could turn things around for you.

Although, Benzema still being there flies in the face of my point slightly.

While that's a very good point in itself the flaw in it is that you're assuming Real would apply logic to the situation.

They do have a track record of going after a big name to appease the fans without much regard to team structure.

He didn't think he was too good for us, he was too good for us and he had the opportunity to go to Real Madrid which was an ambition of his.
You should try not to take it so personally.

Hmmm, I just worry that there wouldn't be much in terms of passing the football to each other, it's not something thats gonna keep me awake though.

Be realistic, look at what he's achieved since he left us - he's 100% justified as far as I'm concerned.
