Yeah, there's that, but if I was playing for Spurs now, I'd not begrudge Bale coming in on the biggest wages and simultaneously think I deserved to be paid the same as him. He'd be a huge motivator/inspiration to a lot of our team imo.
If they want to reach his level and earn what he does, then they have to earn it.

If Bale came & was to earn much higher wages than the rest, I don't think it would really destabilize the squad even if it was significantly higher than their renegotiated contract amounts.

Surely they would understand what he has accomplished compared to them. He's a bonafide superstar of the game who is a multiple trophy & 3X CL winner (possibly 4) who is coming "back" to help them win what they all desire: titles & trophies.

My only minor fear is if he comes back with a Messiah Complex but there's no indication of that in his character.

By all accounts I don't see the messiah complex in him at all. in fact when you hear others talking about him its the complete opposite.

I remember a story about the welsh team and the food they were served was shocking, nobody was impressed. Bale went over to Chris Coleman and asked his permission to take the team coach and the boys all out to Nandos for chicken on him. Coleman said not a problem.

Seems more of a problem solver than a creator of issues to me. Saying that its all third hand information, I've never met him. Although to be fair I've never met Jack Wheelchair but i can guarantee that bloke is a knob.

Nando’s? Tight git. On his wage you would have thought it would be more like Gauchos :D.

He was the reason I became a Spurs fan. I think it would be the ultimate statement to see him come back with the opening of the stadium. But just seems like more of a dream than anything else to this point.

Thing is, even if there was a very small chance, all indications are he wants to stay and his form suggests he’ll probably start the CL final.

Could we not do a deal where we take Bale for a good but reasonable price and they get contractually binding first option on Harry Kane if we ever decide to sell him?

I would imagine they would insist on that. Give them the hope but I don't see Kane leaving for a long long time if at all.

He's said recently that Spurs are the only team (other than RM) that he'd want to play for. Maybe he'd be willing to take a measly $150k pw to play for us. We give him a sign on bonus. There's creative ways of doing this. Long shot, but if he really does love us as much as he says, he'll compromise.

Someone has said that real take a big cut of his advertisment, could be a good amount going back to him if we offer it to offset the wages.

I don't think it would be a case of "Why is he earning more than me?" but more a case of "Why can't the club afford to pay me market rate wages if they're paying them to Bale?". If I was a key player I wouldn't be too impressed and i'd feel like I was a less valued member of the squad.

Do you not think that they'd be excited by him coming?

I admire the optimism around here. I'm almost starting to believe it's viable. What about Gareth being prone to injury etc? How many seasons / games of PL football does he actually have in him? That's my biggest concern.

Even in La liga where RM completely steamroll the majority of teams Bale does alot of 15-20 min cameos and he still struggle with injuries and fitness.

Firstly, if Bale came, it wouldn't be on astronomical wages. We can't & wouldn't do that.

Secondly, I don't think our wages are "that far off", less the ridiculous wages the Manc's teams & Chelsea pay. The mercenaries will go there. We offer decent, competitive wages complemented by added bonus incentives with the understanding that if performances are met their contracts will receive a bump. We've always delivered on that during the Poch era. Hence what we are seeing again yesterday, today & what should come in the ensuing days.

Perhaps a straight transfer for Bale is out of the question, especially considering his current weekly wage, but what about a season long loan deal?

If the Madrid manager (whoever that may be) tells him that he's not in his plans for next season, then he might consider this option.

Basically, plays every week, plays in the Champions League, involved in a PL title challenge, at a club where he is adored by the fans, and all the while still getting paid his crazy weekly wage. And at the end of it, he can weigh-up his options having been in the 'shop-window' for a whole season, instead of on the bench.

All depends on other clubs coming in for Bale, but not a crazy scenario to imagine...

I haven't read every single page of this thread (though was reading the 1 that was in spurs chat), and this comment really does go OTT.

Bale knew what our pay structure was when he was part of the team. he most probably knows that our structure is likely to go higher with the new stadium and also knows that while we are paying the stadium off it won't be the max.

if he has interest in coming back, perhaps it might be because he wants to play for us again, he over the last 5 seasons has earnt so much that perhaps he doesn't need to worry about financials now, even if he had to call it a day tomorrow.

lets just wait and see if it happens, you never know he might surprise us all, and if he still just wants money before football he will opt for a team willing to give it too him.

I agree Bale is a player that could make a difference but for the money he would cost and the high wage demands I would be concerned with how injury prone he has become. He spent around a third of the season out injured with injury after injury, mostly to his calf. He missed over 40 games in 2017. Could he still handle the more physical nature of the Premier league or has he become another sicknote?
