I wonder if, when finalising the sale of Bale, Levy had a sell-on clause put into the contract?

Perhaps, IF there is any truth in this link, said sell-on clause could help with the negotiating of any fee? Or, if there is no truth in the link, but Bale could indeed end up at United etc, we could still make a few quid from his sale and that could go towards the salary/fee of an alternative target?

I believe that there was a sort of first refusal at a fair price thing in place? Sure i remember someone mentioning that a while back?

I'm at work (and far too lazy) so can't be looking for the link but something in the back of my mind stirs...

Yeah I know about the first refusal stuff, but can't recall ever reading about a sell-on clause, which we all know Levy does like inserting in his contracts when selling a player on.

I may be convincing myself it’s doable, but I don’t understand the naysayers.

Levy wouldn’t have put a buy back clause in his contract if he had no intention of actually trying to bring him back or thinking it would be possible. I imagine he also wouldn’t have done it if there were no indiciation from Bale himself that he would someday like to come back. Would be kinda pointless haggling for it otherwise.

We put that clause in knowing he was going to earn astronomical wages and was going for a world record fee. Surely we would have known that if there any chance of him coming back, his wages were going to be high and he would likely cost a few quid?

If Bale is thinking about leaving Madrid, and he certainly hasn’t looked happy, logically, there’s a realistic chance we’d try to bring him back.

Yes, the money numbers would have to be carefully thought about, but really it would come down to Poch and his vision for the next part of the project.

How can you not understand the naysayers when you have to speculate that much in order to convince yourself it's possible? :p

Think wages wouldn’t be a stumbling block. We can pay him same as HK, but give him a discreet £20million upfront bonus ..
even if he’s with us a year it’ll bump up our status

It's not a buy back clause though.

Hoping to get others on board!

Honestly, if people don’t think he’ll fit our squad anymore or think he isn’t right for the team, all good. But ruling it out and thinking people are stupid for being in the thread, doesn’t add up when you think about it.

Think it's if a bid gets accepted we have so long to match the bid for it to also be accepted automatically

It’s not far off! We can match another teams bid and have it accepted. It’s not entirely in our court but the point still stands. We wouldn’t have put any clause like it in if we didn’t think it was possible.

If Man Utd would offer 80m (as an example), I'm guessing we would pass anyway (Levy that is).

There was a £10m selling clause we'd get if Bale was sold to another Premier League club within a certain time. This has expired now.
