I would kind of like to see us move to a 433, but I don't think it is necessary to "make progress".

We have proven we can win with Poch's tactics - we can beat any team in the world. We simply lack consistency.

Where I think Poch can evolve is recognizing that we must play differently against different teams. I think Poch has good long-term strategic vision. I think he could improve short-term tactical thinking on a match-by-match basis.

By progress, I mean winning more games and scoring more points. We'll find it very hard to improve significantly on the players we have, particularly in the short term, so the bulk of the 'progress' needs to come from getting more out of what we have.

Bale to score the winner in the Champions League Final, take off his top to reveal a "Tottenham til I die" tattoo on his back and the hash tag #WelcomeBackBale. Picks up his winner's medal, dropkicks Ronaldo in the face, headbutts Zidane and announces he's signed a 5 year deal to return to Spurs and he's bringing Luka back with him.

So in conclusion, I'm on board. Get it done, Daniel.

There's no way that Liverpool will sell Salah this summer.

If I recall correctly, that was said of Coutinho in the winter as well. And we said it before Bale was sold to Real.

I don’t think Salah will leave Liverpool this summer, but if Barca or Real really want him, they’ll get him.

Hmm... couldn't that equally be applied to Kane. :cautious:

Coutinho was totally different. He was pushing for the transfer and only had a couple of years left on his contract. Liverpool also held fast and refused to sell him last summer. I think most people knew it was only a matter of time before he joined Barca, but the winter window looked unlikely as most clubs don't spend that kind of money mid-season and he was cup tied in the champions league.

Salah has four years left on his contract and has already said he'll be at Liverpool next summer. They've also earned over £200m this season through the premier league and champions league so it's not like they need the money.

Of course not, our players never want to leave :p
Joking aside, Kane grew up here. Salah has no loyalty towards Liverpool.

I fully agree that it is unlikely, but if Salah’s head is turned, it doesn’t matter how many years is left on his contract, or how little Liverpool needs the money, IMO.

It does though. They kept Coutinho last summer even though he went on strike. Anyway let's agree to disagree as this is the Bale thread.

I do seem to recall, years ago, when RM made one of their really large signings, it may have been CR from Man U, and their Chairman at the time explained that such large signings often more than pay for themselves because of the additional revenue from media rights, and additional revenue from different sources. They are excellent at that sort of stuff and I'm sure DL is getting his head around that now with the new stadium just around the corner!

If we had Bale and Modric back right now we'd probably have the best team in the league in my opinion (or at least be close to Man City). Luka may not be possible but if Bale is then we should do our best to make it happen, and at least try to get a player in the Modric mold. A front 4 of Bale, Kane, Eriksen, and Alli with a great playmaker behind them would be unstoppable.

I'm on the fence about having him back. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him in a Spurs shirt again but he doesn't look the same player he was at all when he left. How was he this season? I didn't really pay much mind.

Surely there is someone out there that is better value for money? I'd be nervous paying his wages if he's injured for half the season.

25 games in the league 15 goals. Is top quality whenever he's available which is about 75% of the season.

Quite a few assumptions here.
Wages? Who knows. My guess is they wouldn't do anything inorganic to our wage structure, but rather come up with more creative ways to make him whole.
Value for Money? That all depends on what it costs to get him. Let's say we land him for $50-60M. He plays in about 65% of our games next season, and contributes with 12-15 goals, and as many assists. Who could we get who could produce that for less than $50m?
Same player as when he left? No he isn't. Arguably, he's better. Perhaps, he doesn't have the raw pace and power from his early 20s, but he makes up for it with experience and smarts. Both invaluable to a team that's learning how to win the BIG games.

To be clear, I'm not criticizing your post, my friend. Just trying to present a different way of looking at what Bale would bring to our team. I fully understand your concerns, as there are risks aplenty in bringing in a player of that quality, yet is older and with a sketchy injury record over the last couple of years. Yet, as the badge says: To Dare is to Do. Perhaps it's time for us to live by that mantra and roll the dice.

Love that we have ITK on a player of his stature, but I'd much rather we focus on our attention on a similar caliber player that:
- plays CM
- demands less wages
- is much younger than 29
- less injury prone
- hasn't already left us for big money.

If Bale falls on our lap on the cheap a la VDV at the end of the window then I'm all for it. If this is our big signing then it just feels a bit... West Hammy.
