IIRC we have a contractual right to be notified of any bid by another club and the opportunity to match said bid. I don't know if this only applies to bids that are accepted by Real.

Not much point us matching a bid not accepted by madrid.

Ah, now that would mean no ceiling on the price. Shame. Let's continue to hope that we would actually be his choice then.

Well yes, but logistically it does make a difference.

If we have the right to be notified about any bid, and given the opportunity to match it, then Real can more easily instigate a bidding war.

If it's only bids that Madrid have accepted, then if we decide to match it, it may be harder for Madrid to force higher bids.

All depends on what the contract says.

Do we actually know what's in the contract? That's a genuine question, I'm not being facetious.

Only rumours that we have the chance to match any bid if madrid sell.
Trix might know.

The Times claim Spurs have first refusal if the Wales international, 28, was to return to England before the end of the summer of 2019.

It is said that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is primed to swoop and has the chance to match any bid for Bale within 72 hours of it being tabled to win the race for his signature.

Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo previously reported that Spurs were lining up a move in the forthcoming window to re-sign Bale, while Manchester United are also expected to be in the hunt for his signature.

Bale has a contract that runs at Real until the summer of 2022.

Football Insider verdict:

It has previously been reported that Spurs have first refusal on Bale, but the Times report sheds some new light in terms of the timing of the clause in which they can sensationally re-sign the player they sold five years ago. The cost of the deal for a club with a new stadium to finance will certainly be astronomic, especially as the Londoners operate in a different bracket in the market to the real big spenders. Nevertheless, it would be no surprise were the Welshman to head back to the Premier League after losing his place for the big games at Real, where injuries have taken a major toll. His talent is not in doubt, and his numbers still remain impressive, with even this season yielding a return of 14 goals and eight assists from 33 matches. Bale would be a brilliant signing for an ambitious English club.

One Worldy isn't going to make his pricetag increase too much, especially as he's had injury problems at Madrid suppressing any potential fee. The only team I see being a problem is United and only because to those manc fucks negotiation only means to accept the first figure given to them.

Tottenham Hotspur have first refusal on Gareth Bale if the player leaves Real Madrid for England, according to documents leaked by the Spanish media.
An apparent transfer agreement document - published by AS via Football Leaks - states that the London club have 72 hours to match any accepted bid from another Premier League club.

Neither club has commented on the supposed agreement, which puts the original fee for the player at £78.2m (or a world record £85.1m if Real Madrid took up the option to pay in installments).

It also confirms that outstanding payments over the 2010 transfer of Rafael van der Vaart to Tottenham would be waived, while Spurs would have been entitled to a further £10m fee if Bale was sold by Real Madrid to a Premier League club before September 2015.

Regarding the first refusal element, the document reads:

"Real Madrid and the player hereby grant to Tottenham from the date hereof until June 30, 2019 an option to match any offer received from a Premier League club for the registration of the player.
"Real Madrid shall notify Tottenham the terms of any offer that it finds acceptable (a 'Third Party Offer'), and Tottenham shall thereafter have a period of 72 hours after receipt of such notification to offer to match all the terms contained in the offer to Real Madrid under the Third Party Offer.
"In the event that Tottenham does match the Third Party Offer, Real Madrid shall be required to accept Tottenham's offer in preference to any other offers received (including any higher offers received following Real Madrid's receipt of the Third Party Offer) and transfer the player as soon as is possible in the first available FA Registration Period to Tottenham pursuant to a Transfer Agreement acceptable to Tottenham in its sole discretion."

Given the huge monetary worth of the contract he's on right now, doesn't that also give him quite a bit of choice about where he actually ends up? If Madrid were to try and sell him to the highest bidder, let's say it's a club he doesn't want to go to, won't they take the risk of watching a huge amount of money just tick tock down the drain?

If Real Madrid sign Neymar this window, it would put Bale further down the pecking order. I cannot see how he would stay at Real Madrid. I've always believed that Levy would want a marquee signing for our move into the new stadium and Gareth certainly fits the bill. Currently 9/2 with Betfair on him re-joining Spurs. Looks a good bet to me.

With my lawyer hat on, this clause looks good but is less favourable than perhaps first appears. To exercise our option, we have to match "all the terms" of the third-party offer, not just the transfer fee.

That will cover literally everything in the third-party offer, but most importantly how and when the transfer fee will be paid. Some clubs pay a lot up front (notably United and Chelsea, as I understand it), whereas most clubs without such liquidity make more use of instalments.

It would also include things like sell-on clauses.

He is probably thinking that if he comes to Spurs he would be living under Kane's shadow!
Is it me or did he look isolated after the win ? I would have thought he deserved some more appreciation from team mates.

He totally did. He was wandering around on his own for much of it, and at the podium was behind everyone else.

Ronaldo also giving very unsure statements about the future

"In the next few days I'll give an answer to the fans," Ronaldo told Bein Sports.

"It was beautiful to be at Real Madrid. The future of any Madrid player is not important; we have just made history."

Using the past tense already, which is interesting I guess.

Surely Mourinho and Yanited would like him back there, although at 33.......mind you, he is super fit. Maybe he's thinking of going back to Portugal?

Zidane said after when asked about both Bale and Ronaldo's comments that Ronaldo will definitely be at RM next season and didn't mention Bale at all, make of that what you will

@ButchCassidy Why would you spam me when there was an ITK weeks ago saying he was offered to us and wanted to return?
Well for one, it’s edging dangerously close to ITK bashing which will get you banned from here right quick when A&C is in the mood. But mostly because it just sounds massively misinformed. Deals and info change literally all the time, even ignoring the fact that every transfer has umpteen different angles (club, coach, board, owner, player, player’s agent, player’s mother, player’s mother’s agent) all with different agendas opinions and information, and that it’s not at all weird for two or more of them to disagree, you’re complaining about getting different opinions “months” apart which shouldn’t really be all that surprising even were it all from a single individual source.

Know Trix said we arent interested, and that may well be the case. But I remember the summer he left it was a "he aint going" from a majority of the ITK's until he did go. So fingers crossed.

The effect he would have on our team would be game changing. I know deep down that it won't ever happen, but I would absolutely love to see him brought back this summer. Special player.
